Default Hope this isn't to silly....

But I am looking for advise on an engine compartment detail product. I have been out of the "Nice car" arena for a while and want to make everthing spiffy. I suppose I could run out to an Auto parts store and just buy some expensive stuff. But even simple tasks can prove harmful in the hands of a novice.
Last thing I want to do is harm certain parts or finishes because of simple knowledge. I submitted a few pics in case they wer neccessary. If this is a dumb, "Even mmy 10 y/o knows this stuff!" question, feel free to me. But if you could, still leave your favorite engine compartment cleaner/shiney stuff, that you use. Thanks!

A 50-50 mix of Armor All and water works great.

Future floor wax in a spray bottle. We use it all the time on our fire truck engines when we go to parades! Shines great when it dries.

Good stuff. I was expecting some kind o aerosol can of "Whatever" from Parts plus, or something. Excellent ideas. Thanks!

I thought my brother (he is 30) was the only one doing this. But he uses uncut armor all on everything under the hood. That is a bit much. But the water and armor all combo might cut back on the excesive shine.

Default Ok....

Now what about the engine? Valve covers, exposed iron on block, alum, on the heads, etc. Is there a best oil/degreaser out there? Love the ideas for the interior of the compartment.

Simple Green is a pretty good degreaser but rinse it off well. It goes easier on the painted parts and assembly marks if you still have any under all the grunge.

Default Simple Green.....

Cool, didn't even think of that stuff. Good idea. Do you just wipe it on and call it good. Or should you rinse it off? Really sad, but the last time I cleaned or detailed an engine compartment on one of my cars, was my '79 Z-28 that I bought new. Loved that car. Just seems after I "Grew up" the cars I have had have been commuting cars to my job (40 minutes one way) so they were just driven, and not loved much.
