What squeaks and how did you fix it?
We went for a drive Sunday and my wife commented on the squeaks and creaks the car makes. I said, "I bet you will have some squeaks when you're this old... oh wait!" I forgot she is almost ten years older than the car!
So tell me about your car's peculiar noises and how you solved them. Can't always solve them my stomping the big pedal, right?

the easyest solution to this problem are new weather stripping, adjustment of the latches front and rear, and for later sharks replacing the bushing for the lock pin in the body

She's obsessed with the Vette... always wanting me to stomp on it. I told here I was thinking about Magnaflows instead of the loud pipes and she said "You might as well sell the whole car then, what's the point." Hehe.
I think I have something rubbing on the front right wheel, but I got under there and don;t see anything shiny, and I greased the zerks I saw and still I hear it. Definitely something with the wheel or axle because it gets faster or slower depending on speed.

Could it be a body mount? I would imagine after 35 years they get a bit tired.

I've had my C-3 for about 6 mo. and can't stand rattles & squeaks so have been fixin a few since I got it.
I found several rattles coming from the T-top hardware mounting bolts that were lose. On my year you have to remove the plastic covers that expose the bolts - don't over tighten either though.
I also found some of the A-pillar plastic molding was squeaking so I lined the underside with some material (preferably something that won't hold moisture) and that took car of those. When I replaced my carpet I added heat barrier and in the back storage-deck area I also added some rubber-backed carpet square sections on top of the heat barrier which took all the resonance out of those thin panels that have tendancy to rattle or transmit vibrations originating in other places.
As far as the underside goes it could be a # of things. My car had a heat baffle on the exhaust coming off and needed secured. It also had a muffler that was deteriorating and needing replaced. I would go around and tighten every bolt and screw you can see and bang on areas with your hands and listen to hear what vibrates. Good Luck.

Oh ya - Something just occured to me that may also be a squeaky issue - for a while I thought this squeaky sound that coincided with speed between 5 -10mph and then went away was a brake pad or bearing or somehting but then finally realized it was actually coming from the speedo cable.

I had slight squeaking...
First thing I did was check all the exposed screws on the interior, most were slightly loose, after tighting them, I am very happy with the results.
You can also try to use di-electric grease on the weather stripping, this can bring some life back into the old rubber.

I had a noise from passenger side (Mine is right hand drive &
No it wasn't the wife), I found the door latch rod grommets were
the culprits, spot of grease=Fixed.
Now to tackle the squeeky T-Top.
Thanks everyone for your help in answering questions I haven't asked yet .

My T-tops creak and I know I need to replace the weather stripping.
My left door creaked a lot until I fixed the outside handle last week. So now the lock mechanism & striker bolt are snug and door creaks are gone.
I've lubed all the weather strips and it has helped. As others have said, tighten all the screws you can see. Sometimes the U-nuts need to be replaced or re-bend the screw hole so they bight correctly. There's a lot vibration in these cars.
THen there's body flex depending on the condition of the mounts, suspension squeaks etc...
I think simply because of the design, materials & age, they will never be rattle & squeak free like todays cars unless you have a body off restored car that's like new.

My 71 is in a garage in my basement.
I'm sitting in the family room right above it.
I can hear the car squeaking.
Regards,
Alan
