Default What Year is It Licence Plate

A very popular question at shows in the summer, sometimes a bit too often. So I had this made for next summer.

That's clever. I get that question a lot too but I guess I haven't been asked enough yet to mind.

The question doesn't really annoy me. In fact it can start some interesting conversations . I just thought it would help people identify the car. It is a repro (plastic not metal) plate for the front. It is not registered for use on the road. But it is very realistic.

I will install a couple of 1 x 1" velcro patches on the top corners of the real plate and just stick it on for shows.

Thanks Ed. When I bought this car last spring and sold my 1967 last summer I had thoughts of being several orders lower in the Corvette pecking order. And in a sense I suppose that is true, at least according to some enthusiasts. But I very much enjoyed restoring this car (not finished yet!) and driving it in 2008. BTW that's medium red metallic (974) on oxblood/dark red (425).

That's one of the reasons I went with this plate.

One thing that never fails to happen and I guess you will see this next year.

I have had people look all around my car and look at the tag and then ask a minute later "What year is this car?"

My front and rear tags read

71 LT-1

PS

Very nice car.

That's why I got this vanity plate, and they still ask.

OK Here is my plate, it's an original 1968 plate that i restored, it's not a personal / vanity plate either, it just rolled off the assembly line that way in numerical / alphabetical order................
I FEEL LIKE I WON LOTTO !!!
"GO" was the prefix for Goshen County NY........

PEOPLE STILL ASK WHAT YEAR IT IS / GO FIGURE !!!

I always get ...............is it for sale ?

I also have a decal right next to my reggie on the windshield it says in big letters................

"NOT FOR SALE / TOO FAST FOR YOU ANYWAY !!

I've had CORV 65 on my 65 for many years and I also get asked all the time what year it is.
RAT 427 on my 68 and everyone asks what does RAT mean?
My 61 plate says: ROUT 66 and everyone thinks it's a 66 Vette even though it looks nothing like one.

O well...

You can only try. These cars are very old and people might not twig to year, even with obvious indicators.

I also have the year on my plates and and as others have said, "what year is it" is usually the first asked quesiton. I do like your plate though.

Not long after I bought my Durango I was out cruising after a car wash. New black, sparkling, chrome wheels...it was looking great. So I pulled up to this light and stopped. An older lady, maybe 40, pulled up next to me at the light in a white Durango, same body style and similar trim level.

I looked over at her through the window, and saw her leaning out her window checking out my car. She looked it over up and down and front to back, and looked up at me and said, "That car is gorgeous what is it?"

Keep in mind she and I are both in the SAME car, just different colors.

I cracked up, told her it was a Durango, and pulled off as the light turned green.

DB,
Love it. Two years ago. What year is your Maserati? I loved this car but it is gone.

its amazing how lighting can make paint look better in some pics than others. i think that the paint in the second group of pics is better. not that the first is bad or anything. just my opinion

I hope that the plate works for you at shows. My plate is the same as my handle here Red70vette. I still get asked questions as to what year my car is but I just tell them to look at the liscense plate. That usually stops the questions but not always. Some people do not read well.

Looking at the plate would answer the first question people ask
