Default engine casting number ID help

i have a big block that im really curious as to what it came out of and exactly what size it is.. can someone help me out and fill me in on any info? here is the casting number: 3999289 the last number could also be an 8, couldnt 100 percent tell if it was a 9 or 8.. thanks in advance for your help!

I don't think there was a casting number like that that ended in '8' so I think you read it correctly.

3999289 - 454 - '71 thru '79 - 2 or 4 bolt - Some "CE" replacement blocks had four bolt main caps.

you really need to post the cast date and the numbers/letters stamped on the engine right front stamping pad to get lots more information...

let us know...

Ok I do know it has 72 Hi Perf stamped on it also. I'll have to look at the other casts and get back to you...
