I think the guy got ripped off! It is not even a Pace Car.
Look at the auction description, it is a Official 25th Anniversary Edition Indy Pace car Replica. Note the word "Replica". It does not have the correct interior or color. Pace cars had the 79-82 seats those are standard 78 seats. Pace Cars had Silver interior, that is oyster. Also the Limited Edition decals on the front fenders are above the flags not under them. I think the guy just paid $13250 for a 78 Corvette. I hope he knows what he bought!

I think this one should have been described as: "Failed Attempt at a Official 25th Anniversary Edition Indy Pace car Replica"

I went back and watched it, the announcers were all talking about how origional it was and what a good investment. I really hope the guy did not think it was a real one that bought it!

I just caught a little of that auction, but I swear they were saying it was good deal. The reason was that it was the fastback style and it was only on a corvette for 2 years, and this was the first year. If I am not mistaken, but that was the first year and wasn't it on every c3 from then on. So that would make it 5 year run.

The announcers talking about this car were really bad, but they were giving bad information on a few of the others too. I like to watch these for the cars, but the Mecum clan sometimes seem like hillbillies selling cars.

If they were screwing up on the Pace Car and others that you are familiar with, they're probably also screwing up on the ones that you don't have familiarity with. The Barrett-Jackson guys are, in my experience, only moderately knowledgable about first generation Mustangs but they always hand out lots of authoritatively mouthed B.S. on the subject. I am ashamed to admit that I saw that Pace Car on Mecum last night and didn't notice that the interior wasn't the correct silver, and I thought that they were saying that the car was a "replica" because it wasn't actually used as a pace car at Indy. My bad.

I saw a 78 Pace car with 16 miles on it sold at BJ for $31K. It was real and it was perfect. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time to put it in storage for 30 years and make a killing. What a shame and what a waste.

With that said I would have loved a 3% return last year!
