Guys, I'm looking for some advice on vendors to get matching parts from. To start with, a little back story might help; I took apart the interior of my 76 this winter, and planned on repainting all the trim parts that were good with a vinyl/plastic paint of the right color, and replacing anything that needed it. I ordered the paint in January from Mid-America, in buckskin, which was the only light brown available in 76(the trim tag says 642 for interior). I stripped them and cleaned them as I took them off, and am just priming and painting them this week. I noticed that the color wasn't all that close to the original, kind of figured that sun and time had changed it. All was great, until I open the packages I got today from Ecklers, with my new e-brake console(painted in buckskin) and my new shift console(covered in buckskin material) - at this point I noticed that the painted parts looked almost a shade of green compared to the two console parts; which i wrote off to the paint being from a different vendor - then I put all three parts (both consoles and a freshly painted piece) outside and compared the colors - NONE of them matched. I know that having paint match a piece of material is tough, however the originals I have are the same color, whereas the two replacments are definitley different colors from each other. I wouldn't mind if they weren't the same color as the original, as long as they matched each other since they do touch each other. Has anyone ever run across this before? Thanks for reading such a long post, but ordering pre-painted parts is supposed to take care of the frustration of ordering paint and trying to match parts.
Also remember that alot of the pieces didn't match when these cars were new. Different parts came from different suppliers; it was whoever was the lowest bidder. I have 2 1975's with original Medium Saddle interior. The dash pad on both car's is noticibly darker than the rest of the interrior, and the seats and e-brake console are lighter.
I have new and old parts in my interior, like all of us. I bought enough interior dye to completely dye the old pieces and "mist" to new parts, just enough to match. It all looks pretty good.
