Have an '80 with stock 350. I decided to change the intake and carb, as I have never learned to leave well enough alone.
Anyway, with an Edelbrock performer and a holley 600, have run into tons of plumbing problems. Water neck blocks one coolant sensor plug hole, and the carb blocks a vaccuum hole. Plus I worry the carb, once installed won't clear the hood.
Open to suggestions. I wanted to mildly tweak this up as it is a real dog to drive. We have emissions testing here (visual is a big part) so that factors in seriously. Is there ways to replumb , or do i need different components to solve the issues? Thanks for the input, as it is "down" now and driving me batty
Do you know what ports on it & what they are for- Yes or No?
not yet. I've changed blazers and such in the past, but this seems to have way more emissions! Vacuum switches (temp activated are bugging me). I think I can "T" the emissions vacuum lines to the carb rather than the intake (had a screw in vacuum pickup with three ports). A friend advised moving the trans vacuum line right to the carb for better response time, anyway. I just need to move the coolant switch somewhere (you suggested the head-where?) Thanks again, it's encouraging me!
as far as the clearance issues are concerned, i have found that placing a blob of play-dough on the highest point of the air cleaner and closing the hood tells me exactly how much extra room there is for the intake/carb/air cleaner stackup. however, this is w/o a hood blanket on the car.
also, i know that it may take more time to get the parts, if you use a online corvette parts distributor, you will save a lot of headaches in getting things to fit and perform properly.
I cant help with your questions but I have a comment about that Holley, I used one of them a few years back on an el Camino that I had and although people told me "You're using "THAT CARB" " like it was inferior or something, it ran perfectly on my car I was very happy with it , once I changed the choke over to an electric one. In fact I still have it along with a Edelbrock manifold I may just use when I get enough ambition to finish my Corvette project. Peace,,,,Moosie
Thanks. I found an online fittings place, as nobody stocks fittings locally anymore due to the rising cost of brass. I checked clearance this afternoon. Gonna need a low air cleaner!!! I just love projects that don't fall into place
If the carb gives issues, I might look into the other model...
One other issue: EGR. The Edelbrock intake has a rectangular port with two threaded holes at opposite corners. The car has a 1/4 circle shaped EGR, much larger. I am trying find either an adapter, or the year/model that chevy used the rectangular style EGR. Which of course doesn't quite clear the carb,either...
