Oil...Royal Purple vs. Castrol Syntec vs. Brad Penn
Alright, so hopefully I dont get bashed as bad as the last guy who posted a similiar topic. My question is this...I've ran Castrol Syntec fully synthetic oil in my vette for about 8 years along with a K&N filter and had no complaints. I had read a lot of reviews on the Royal Purple oils in which all were positive so I decided to change it over. I've driven the vehicle for about 600 miles on the RP and so far so good. I was recently talking with a friend and he told me about Brad Penn oil. He advised it was a excellent top quality race oil thats not sold in stores. He said it far surpasses the RP and Castrol. He said its a lot better on the cams and higher performance engines because it doesnt have the additives that sythetic oils have. He said the Penn oil contains zinc which actually helps keep the "tackiness" in the motor and helps better with lubrication. Anyone have any input on the Brad Penn oils? I'm sure thousands have used the Castrol and sure several have used the Royal Purple(RP)...But how about the Brad Penn oil???

Castrol came out with a new 20W-50 recently with a high zind formula specifically for classic cars. Here is the link to the information. http://www.castrol.com/castrol/gener...tentId=7032644

Am I missing something?
Valvoline, at least, tells you what the levels are in their VR-1 and other oils.

Just did a check on Royal Purple's web site. I could not find the Zinc/Phosphorus levels here, either.
Quote from their site "Royal Purple does not provide physical specifications on its racing products".
I guess the average person is to stupid to understand the numbers.

You're right, it doesn't give the zinc levels on the Castrol website. There is a number you can "call for product details" shown at the bottom of the page: 1-800-462-0835. Maybe if you call they will give out that info.
The website does say that the classic car formulation is not catalyst compatible with cars manufactured after 1993 so it must have increased zinc levels.
Maybe if you call RP they will give the info on theirs too. No doubt they have an "800" line too for tech questions

How much is good and how much is too much? I have read several articles saying too much zinc is not good. No, I don't remember where I read it. Give me a break, I'm old!
