My 1976 has this interior combination. It's shown on the window sticker as 712 AWF2 WHT LEATHER BKT/DK FIRE ACC. The exterior on this vette of mine is classic white.

Here is a picture

I think it's one of the more interesting interiors for the time period.

It wasn't an option; they all had them. The same wheel was on the 77 standard cloumn cars.

Not just 77. It was also came on the straight column in 78 and 79. Chevrolet only stopped using it in the Corvette in 80, when the tilt/tele column became standard.

It's a shame that it has become known as the "Vega" wheel. It was not the standard wheel on the Vega, it only came on Vega GTs. But it was the standard wheel on the Camaro, Monte Carlo and Chevelle Laguna; and the optional "sport wheel" for Chevelles and Chevelle SSs, as well as Novas, in the 70's. It was just that back in 76, so many of us were so incredulous that Chevrolet would replace the 3 spoke wheel, with this "plastic" wheel from the lowly Vega, that we just had to insult it.

To me it just seems silly that people get all worked up over a stupid steering wheel. If you want to change it....then just change it for Pete's sake! I had the same steering wheel on my 77 Camaro LT, so for me I don't see it as a Vega wheel, but rather a Camaro wheel. And call it what you will....an option, a feature, whatever....but it's still just a steering wheel! Well said gbvette.....well said.

Mine is also the Firethorn/White Deluxe interior.
I always get questioned about what happened to the original seats and door panels... they look they were replaced with something that didn't quite match. When I tell them no, it's original, I get that raised-eyebrow "Oh, REALLY???" look.

(my carpets are just really faded- they're not tan!)

It was a one year option only because when Zora Duntov found out about it he had the guy with that idea taken out back, given a Vega wheel to hold, and slapped him across the face with his gloves exclaiming "Dummkopf!!" Then it went back to a Corvette steering wheel the rest of the years.

Yea, some people don't like it..

Thread is seven years old and we still can't settle the fact that it's not a one year option, it was a standard non option wheel used all the way to 1979.

Can someone post a photo of a non 76 car with the wheel? If standard option there should be tens of thousands so picture would be easy.
