Default Show off your speakers 78-82

Probably like everyone else has already, I've found out you can't change out your old rear delco speakers with new aftermarket ones without some modification. So I'm asking you guys who have succesfully installed your speakers to show them off on the forum.

Includes an amp behind the speaker bar powering the 2 6x9 rears and 5.5 three-ways in the front kick panels.

Polk db651's in the kicks and a nasty 10" sub in back, all amped; original rears just replaced with blank panels. Wicked sound

Why exactly cant you swap the rears for new 6x9s? I am in the middle of interior redo and have already replaced dash speakers and head unit just havent purchsed rears yet.

6 X 9 fit but sound quality is poor becasue of no baffle, that is why others have customized a box.

I am using my 6 X 9 as rear fill, so I don't car about bass, just looking for midrange

New Sub

i had a custom made box done by Studio-Lab.

fits exactly between the hump, on both sides , in the back.

woofers/tweeters etc & it is a low profile, so i can put the glass-tops in their bags & still pop them into the back

& if i want, i can pick up the box, clip some extra long speaker wires on, & put the box on the roof or rear deck lid, while parked at a bbq , beach etc

& if i need the entire cargo space, the box lifts out in 2 seconds & put it back in later

When i get time i will be installing a 400 wt amp, just to make it super crystal clear , but i want to run a separate battery- just for the amp

Did you make your box or get it from brightaudio? Also where did you store your amp?

Since the original post I have installed an amp.

As you can see, my tops still fit in this configuation.

The delco rear speakers have tiny magnets on them. Using speakers that have larger magnets will cause interference problems with the mount of the rear cargo compartment pull cover.

I wanted more of the original look in my car, so I purchased a set of PYLE 6x9s which were under-deck mounts and low profile. I had to remove the pull screen cover and grind the ends off some to allow the magnets to clear.

Additionally, since the original GM panels are thin plastic and didn't mate well with the PYLES, I used them as templates and made ones out of 1/4" thick MDF. The MDF was then spray painted black and I covered them the acoustic speaker cloth.

That blended in nicely since I have a black interior. If your interior is a different color, you may need to make adjustments in the color of the MDF mounts and/or grill covering.

My sound is OK, but again since I wanted to keep the original head unit for the 8-track player, I'm not driving these things with any kind of power or extremely clean signal like a CD.

Good luck.

Does anyone here know the exact dimensions for the rear box? Or does anyone on here make it and willing to sell? Trying to upgrade my sound system and I love all of your setups but can't find anyone locally that makes the box. If I had the dimensions I would attempt to make it myself. Please help. Thanks. I have a 1980
