Just how bad is Cross Fire Fuel injection in a 1982?

Go to any dealership in the country today and what will you find there??????????? Yep, that's right ALL NEWER CARS.
Okay so they are using their warranties that were designed into the cost of the car.....but I thought it was a quasi-valid point.

I'll just chime in here for those computer controlled carbs of 81. I own a 81 Caprice with something like 270,000 mi on it. Never had problem with the carb other than a failed 02 sensor. I actually owned several computer controlled carbed vehicles and rarely ever had any problems with them in their day. Compare that to the carbed vehidles of the day that I seemed to alway struggle to get running right w/o a flat spot. But I agree the 81's would be high maintenance today with all the sensors and vacuum hoses. But I just backed my 81 out of the garage today and it fires right up and runs smooth.

I bought my first 82 back in 85. It was a CE with 2700 miles on it. I sold it in 92 with 71K miles. I never had an issue with the CFI. I drove the car cross country several times and it was my DD. The guy I sold it to still has it and he has had no issues.
I just picked up another 82 last Sept with 28K miles. This one will not be a DD but I don't expect any issues with the CFI on it either. The biggest downfall to the CFI that I have found is the lack of performance upgrades.

Hi All,
I was thinking of buying a 1982 C3 as a daily driver but know it has cross fire fuel injection that could be hard to repair. Its is working order now but Is it a good idea to stay away from it because of the cross fire fuel injection? I don't want to get stuck if it ever breaks.
Thank you!

I have never even seen a crossfire, (That must be why I hate 'em so much!!!! Just kidding.......) but people hated the old rochester fuel injection back in the late '50s, early '60s, because they couldn't figure out how to tune 'em. Threw 'em away and bolted on carbs and went along their merry way, singing "I hate fuel injection, it sucks so bad......." Sound familiar?

82 crossfire
I have an 82 I bought fifteen years ago. Had 39,000 when I bought it and now has 63,000. Love the car . Only problem I have now that I can't figure out is that it pings really bad when I get on it. Also I changed the sending unit because the gas gauge never dropped down pass half tank. Still won't go to empty. Any suggestions on both of my problems ???

I now have 275,000 trouble free miles on my CrossFire injected '82. The only thing I've had to do is replace one of the IAC motors about 15 years ago and then a throttle position switch about 10 years ago. To improve it's performance I put a frame-mounted HyperTech fuel pump on it 5 years ago and then I put a Renegade intake manifold on it last year and that made a HUGE difference from 3500 rpm and up.
