Default Trim tag solves year issue.....

I pulled the trim tag off of my buddy's Vette. According to the trim tag, the car is a '79 Vette. The trim and paint code is 592, which is Light Doe Skin and the paint code is 67L, which is Hilton Brown Metallic, which was only offered in 79. The L at the end of the paint code I believe refers to leather interior. Now I can figure out things that need to be done, like rewiring the engine bay.

The trim tag really won't tell you much about model year. There is no Corvette paint code of 67.

http://www.corvettepaintcodes.com/

The L means "lower" or the area below the belt line and is a carry over from other GM cars which were two-toned. No '79s were two-toned, but the code carried over.

The VIN will tell you the year. Post your friend's VIN.

The Corvette Black Book would help you a lot.

There was a code 67 according to the judging manual for 79.

One site also claims that 67 might appear as 82 although that is not listed in the manual

Corvettepaint lists it as 82 = Dark Brown Metallic

I agree the vin # is most important since paint and interior can be changed..

592 means Lt. Doeskin Leather
59c means Lt. Doeskin Cloth/leather

When I pulled the tag, it is brown metallic under the tag. The VIN does no good as it is from a 77 Vette. There is another thread I posted on here somewhere that details the fiasco with my buddy's Vette. The only year that offered that exterior color according to the paint and trim identifier I used was 1979. BTW, the car is currently black/black. I am trying to find the VIN stamped on the frame.

This is the link to the other thread that has a link to the paint and trim code identifier I used.

According to the Black Book....
"Code 82 dark brown may also be coded 67".

There is a paint code 67 for a 1975 http: www.rogerscorvette.com/specs/75.htm The L is for lacquer.

This car has the aero rear window from the 78 up cars, so with that said, I think it is a 79 based on the paint code. That was the only year with the 67 paint code and the 78-82 rear window. Did they still use lacquer in 79?

Preston: All the St. Louis cars were painted with acrylic lacquer. The Bowling Green cars got acrylic enamel with clear coat.

I did not said your car was 1975 I put a link that shows that there was paint codes for a 1975 which has 67 as a number. I own a 1975. If you give us the vin number it would make it a lot easier to answer your question.
