Just find out when the plates were issued. That will determine a couple things either its the original plate or when the these plates were assigned to this VIN. Just check with your local DMV. There might be a chance they could cross reference to the privious plate which will determine vette or chevelle or whatever it was on.

I had the DMV run the VIN number that it was supposed to be. They said it was not reported stolen. However, I was told that it may have been done so long ago, that the records may not be available anymore. So I am working to trace the title back as far as I can go.

Do you have to have a business account to use this site? Worth $2.50 per vehicle check but looks like you have to be a business?

And as per my PMs, your DMV cannot and does not check the VIN nationwide or internationally. The fact that the VIN does not show within your state means very little.

The site will tell you if a record exists before you buy. Just put the VIN in and run it. It will say record does or does not exist. If a record exists, $2.50 might be a good investment.

You do not have to be a business. I have run a couple of VINs through this site, and gotten results.

When you get the message saying that the service costs $2.50, click the search button on the left side of the screen. It will check and report if it found a record.

Use this site, not the other one.

Default 1969 Vin

I have a 1969 Corvette and the Vin plate on the windshield frame is missing. On the drivers door frame is a State of NJ assigned Vin. Is the original Vin number located anywhere else besides the windshield frame?
Thank You George.

I do have a Clear title with the NJ assigned Vin.

Hi g,
The VIN was also stamped on the driver's side frame rail above and just to the rear of the rear wheel.
It can sometimes be seen with a small mirror depending on the condition of the frame.
There's no other place on the body beside the a-pillar.
It sounds like your state assigned number will be the best you can hope for.
Regards,
Alan

Anything new on this?

My theory is this....vin from another car, then altered perhaps...or maybe a state re-issue if car was stolen recovered and original numbers were gone?

I am also not far from Framingham..just sayin

What is the New Jersey assigned VIN? Sometimes state issued VINs use part of the original GM number.

What is the time build code on the trim tag? A VIN range can be determined from that.

Rather than asking your question by responding to another member's thread thats been dead for five years, start your own thread and ask your question.

You might get some people to see it and get answers that way.
