Have you seen a non electronic 4L80?
Hi,
I'm planning to swap my TH400 to a 4 speed with overdrive. I thought to the 4L80, because of it's similarity to the stock 3 speed...
But I can't find out if all 4L80s are electronic or not?
My car is a 71 BB so only a non-electronic controlled tranny matches it. Better idea? Suggestions? Something I forgot?
Thanks, Matt

Yes... all 4L80e's are electronic as the shifting is accomplished by solenoids.
The TCU is easy to hook up and it's programable.
A 200r4 is probably the cheapest/easiest for you, I personally don't like them but I'm in the minority.
A 700r4 is next but I dislike them as well.
try this link for info

A 200-4R is a direct fit, you'll not have to deal with cross member re-location or shortening the drive shaft, as well as its not a electronic conrolled, you can build a 200-4R to be as tough (or more) as a TH400.

Thanks for asking that question. I recently took ownership of a '79 Vette with 3-speed auto trans. I'd like to go to a 4-speed auto that can take the power of a SBC ZZ4 Engine.
So, not meaning to hijack the thread, can anybody tell me what my best move would be in getting a 4 speed auto?
Thanks.

They also have stand alone "Brains" to run a 4L60/80 behind a carburated engine.
I used to work on something similar in Iraq. The HMMWV's have those transmissions and no other computer.
