Default Loud or quiet? Help

I need to replace the side exhaust on my ’68. It had a stock GM 1969 side exhaust system installed back when. Some suppliers offer quiet and loud pipes. The question is should I go loud of not. There are different opinions of what is loud and quiet. I don’t want it to sound to tame and on the other hand I don’t want to wake up the neighbors. What would you put on? Has anyone replace their side exhaust and are you happy with your choice?

I am replacing the Bubba-installed glass packs with a crossover tube on my original side exhaust car, so anything will be an improvement. I've been told to buy from Allen, but to have them use '67 mufflers with the '69 pipes. Before ordering, I need to confirm which is louder.

Allens. Even the "quiet" will set off car alarms. It's fun.

I heard a vette with the quiet type sidepipes on it at the eureaka springs weekend a couple of weeks ago and had to look at it close to see if they real sidepipes. They were. Tame was a understatement. It was so quiet the sidepipes sounded less stock mufflers. It was SAD.
Having said that it's your personal choice whether to go with loud or quiet.
I've talked to some people and was told that they went with the 67 sidepipes under there 69 style side covers but had to have the ends on the tailpipe changed out. I thought they were loud, but a good loud.
I have a set of allens sidepipes (loud) and I'm currently installing them.
First I have other projects to do to the car before I can fire up the engine to hear that awsome sound.
P.S, I dont give a hoot what the neighbors think or say so let em rip WOT.

Just ordered pipes from Allen's today. Decided to go with the '69 style dual-tube mufflers, but increased from 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" exhaust pipes for less restriction. After all, the 427 exhaust manifold outlet is 2-1/2" diameter. Anything larger and the exhaust pipes won't fit under the OEM side covers.

If I had chosen the '67 straight thru chambered-type mufflers, then I would have had to weld the rectangular exhaust tips on myself. They also appear noticably incorrect when someone happens to be looking underneath the car.

I am thinking the '69 style pipes are louder than the '67s, which nobody seemed to have complained about. Loud is good!

By the way, Allen's will ship within a couple of days. Not bad for a somewhat special order. I remember reading in another thread where somebody mentioned having to wait months for their pipes and ended up cancelling the order and fighting to get their money back.
