not being 100% sure what you mean by "higher hood center", I am going to go out on a limb and say "yes". The big block hood provides more vertical room under it than the small block hood, I forget what the clearance difference is, but I bet someone will know. It definitely looks higher from the driver's seat, but I wouldn't say it "impairs my view" at all.

Edit: Actually, that isn't true. From my comfortable sitting position, I can't see if the passenger's side headlight housing came up or not with my BB hood where I could with my SB hood. Luckily, my "headlight" warning light works, so I don't have to lean over to be sure

I think they are the same except one says L-82, the other, 454.

In 1974, the hood was the same, big block or small block. Same hood from 1973 to 1975. The 1968-1972 BB hoods were taller than their SB equivalents but that is not what you are dealing with.

Correct answer for 1968-1972, wrong answer for 1974. All 1974 hoods are the same.

74 has the same med. rise hood on SB & BB. Better clearance than the early hoods. The L-88 hi rise hood is only 7/8" higher than the 73-79 med. rise hood.

I measured 2" difference between 68-72 BB hood and L-88, so that would support Ganey's post above that the 73-79 hood has about 1" better clearance than the 68-72 BB hood.
