Default Aftermarket spark plug wire routing, PICS?

Hi all,

Really don't like the factory routing, what should be a 5min job to change the spark plug wires is made an hour long saga trying to feed those damn wires through and underneath the motor. I am after a setup that comes across and down over the valve covers (so all the wires are all easily accessible), would love to see pics of peoples setups also what lengths the wires are, the manufacturer, and the manufacturer of any brackets etc that hold/route the wires.

Thanks,
cosmic

For a momment...just for a second, pretend it's a Camaro..! Seriously, I bought a set you cut to length and ran them "normal" on the top side of the engine. Sorry no pics...I'll try to snap some tonight and post them.

You can buy a wire loom.
Wait and I'll post the picture of the mine.

Mine was already done when i bought it, but i noticed they cut slots in the original wire covers so the wires could come out on top of the valve covers.

Mine run along the bottom rail of the valve covers and drop off one at at time at each cylinder.Name: 2007_0521Corvette0005.jpg

Universal MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires cut to fit alongside the valve covers in R&M Specialties #1101P looms. You would need to pick the wire set based on your distributor cap type. These are what I used:

Great Thread.

Not only seeing other great ways to route your wires,
but you also get to see so many different valve covers.

Default Nice engines!!!

72Vette,
I really like your engine layout, especially the top radiator hose. That is the way I want to do mine. Also like the spreader bar - ahhh, there's so much inspiration here. Keep up the good work.

Not a fan of it either. Seemed to look good and work well for many years. I just wonder how many chased problems from this setup.

It makes a big difference if you use headers vs the oem cast manifolds. No problem with headers.
It would be great to see better pics of lilmonster's car showing from the valve covers down to the spark plugs. That's the problem area.

In one of Smokey's findings, referenced in old books, he mentioned how it is important to keep the wires at least 1 inch apart to prevent higher rpm spark jumping and his experiences with it. Wires are better now, but in the 60's he also condoned a coil/cyl. Also good insight.

Does anyone know if this aftermarket kit will work if I use the stock exhaust cast iron manifolds?

Here is what I did on my 75. I used the wires that you make up as you go.
