Epoxy Garage Floor
Would like to put down an epoxy floor in my garage. Has any one done it and what product did you use. Pics are good to if you have them.

I used this and was very happy with it. It was just as expensive or cheap as anything recommended by the local paint store.

I'm going to be doing this next weekend. Have to finish prep this weekend. I'm using Epoxy-coat 100% solids. I was torn between the epoxy and porcelain tile, but couldn't find a good deal on the tiles and need to get this moving. I'm doing 1000 sf. Hoping to get half done next weekend, then give a week of curing time and transfer everything to the other side and do the other half.

Agree that prep is key. Detailed instructions are included for Griot's http://www.griotsgarage.com/text/pdf/90011_90013.pdf Acid etch works, I chose to grind the entire floor, routed out cracks (to a size of 1/8"-1/4" wide by 1/4" plus deep) and filled with structural epoxy, then ground entire floor flat (do not breath the dust!), check surface for moisture seal to ensure you do not have moisture build up under slab which will blister paint.

PPG Aquapon 35
Turbojet, I used an epoxy called PPG Aquapon 35 that I purchased at a local paint store. It wasn't expensive at all. It requires mixing 2 parts so you get 2 gallons of finished material. All that was required was etching the floor with muratic acid, letting it dry for a day, then applying the epoxy. If I recall, the Aquapon was about $30 per gallon. Check my thread called "Garage Progress" for pics.

Thank you, but some one said the key is prep. I had stained my garage floor which did not hold up, so I had to get all the old material up. I used my power washer which pulled it up no problem and it etched the floor also.
I have spilled everything from brake fluid to acid and nothing has hurt it. The floor wasn't cheap to do, but the floor does not come up.
it's a 3 step product, primer A, primer B, ( your color) then clear coat
I told the guy I bought the product from, if this floor comes up, I'm coming over the counter at him.

Check out this thread, post #15 for my floor. It is HomeDepot Rustoleum Black/White Granite Texture, not the on-the-shelf kit. It really is all about the surface prep. Using water in any form is a bad idea as it soaks into the concrete. The crew that did mine used some type of powder that "eats" everything that is soaked into the concrete. They then used a large sander and smoothed out the surface before applying the first coat. No water was ever used, and my floor had everything spilled on it.

Someone had used old enamel paint to paint my garage floor and it was chipping and lifting everywhere. Because my concrete had a smooth finish on it I had the floor shot-penned. The finish had to be applied at 50 deg or above and had to sit for 48 hrs before you could use it. But I just applied it with a conventional paint rollers and a brush along the edges.
