Default Vacuum tank for head lights

ok so I have a problem with my head lights going up and down so I started checking lines and found that the coffee can in the font was leaking air. In the process of taking it out the adapter piece broke off and i was wondering if i really need to have this or if I can bypass this I have looked online for a new one and ecklers has a part number but they say it's discontinued.

The headlights will go up and down without the coffee can as long as the engine is running and you connect all 3 hoses together.
