Default 68-69 berger corvettes

There is a green 69 427/400 vert on ebay and there was a cordovan maroon 68 427/435 vert that was on ebay last year and most recently at BJ austion that was sold for around 90k and the green 69 on ebay has a buy it now of 159k.These are the only known 68-69's massaged by Berger Chevrolet, was wondering if anybody can share more info on these.

i was under the impression that they were just vettes sold by berger, and had their name on them. much like the 69 camaro my dad has, it has the berger tags on it, but nothing was ever done to it by them.

That is the green one that is currently on ebay and has some mods done to increrase hp from 400 to 450.The maroon 68 was a 435 horse vert and theses are the only 2 vettes that Berger Chevrolet did some mods on.

Is there something I'm missing here?
A dealer decides to modify a couple Corvettes before selling them, and that makes them worth more money now?
In my book they aren't original anymore so they should be worth less.

There were plenty of dealers pushing speed parts and performance upgrades in the 60's/70's until the epa shut them down. The cars are Very collectable today

Yenko, Baldwin, Dick Harrell, Nickey etc
Check out the prices!

Check with the guys at the Supercar registry. They may know something about the Berger Corvettes. I like this website. They were one of the first to 'out' the Reggie Jackson ZL1 that was sold at BJ a couple of years ago for what it really was. There is a lot of good information on this website for true 60's - 70's super cars.

I understand your point, but enough people do "get it" that a market has been established for these cars. They were legendary street performers in their day and are coveted by most knowledgeable collectors. Berger, to a lesser degree than Yenko and Baldwin Motion.

The emphases was much more with Camaros rather than Corvettes...Not much to transplant with a Vette, you just ordered what you wanted. The Camaros and Chevy Too`s were ripe candidates for the large Vette engines and the dealers compensated the customers that were not ordering the COPO cars....The problem with dealer transplants is those cars lacked the original engines and were not the so called matching numbers pieces unless there was a set of stamps readily available during the transplants....

I would say a correctly ordered OE car with matching from any dealer with the right stuff would necessarily be a better car than one a dealer put together....

Okay. I give up. Who/what was Berger. I grew up with Motion, Yenko, Nickey and others, but never heard of Berger. Where were they located?

Was the 160k the real selling price ? I saw that the 68 sold at BJ auction in January for 90k.

Their in Grand Rapids, and they still do the Camaros.....The early Camaros were just like Yenkos, Nickey, ect. Transplanted engines without vin numbers unless the dealers stamped them....The L72`s were the engine of choice with 4 speed cars.......

you do realize this thread is several months old
