Default How Far To Disassemble e-Brake Handle?

Now that I'm getting the interior put back together, I ran into a question that doesn't have a quick solution. I'm asking you guys what's the preferred method to install the e-brake handle console slide seal? Bubba broke the original seal which is why I'm doing this exercise.

I searched my AIM; UPC 1 ASM, Sheet E 7 doesn't explain how to: just exploded view. Reviewed entire 1972 AIM and received no joy. Did a search on CF-General but nothing specific came up.

I don't see a way to remove the grip sides either? It looks like the handle has to be removed from the mount to get slide on from beneath.

Plus there's the tab on handle for the e-brake warning switch to negotiate. Looking to make a good fix. Anybody had experience replacing one of these slides?

Hi D,
I believe you can put a slit in one side of the slide to put it in place on the handle. If you put the slit in one of the grooves molded into the slide you can't see it when installed because the track for the slide holds the slit closed.
Regards,
Alan

I've got one sitting here that I haven't gotten around to installing and it already has a cut on the side. Not sure which vendor it came from since it came with the car.

It should have a slice on the side.

Wow, no kidding? Obviously, I'm thrilled that it's that simple and frankly, I hesitated to suggest cutting it bc I didn't want to give Bubba any more exposure than he deserves.

As you can see, the package is still sealed and I hadn't noticed if it came pre-cut? Didn't think a cut would be correct and forgot to consider the channel it rides in offers upper and lower support.

At least now I won't feel too ignorant getting that that part of the console reassembled.

Thanks Alan, Brad, and Tom. Much appreciated.

Good to know.

It sure saves a chunk of time to leave the handle alone and slip the seal around it.

After getting home last nite, took the seal out of the pkg. Sure enough, found a small cut underneath (smooth side) in between humps. It didn't reach all the way through; just a lead to show where to complete. Who'd a thunk it?

Celebrated by cracking open a cold barley pop and offerd thanks to the Corvette God(s). Thanks also to the more earthly students of the craft.

No need to cut it. I just installed mine and the opening slides over the brake handle.

Once you have it over the handle, slide the seal back into the console track and you're home free.

I hope I'm not too late.

Thanks, East. Hadn't returned to this yet so I'll let you know what I find.
