Default What's it worth?

Hi guys. I'm a C-2 guy but, I had a '79 and a '80 corvette a long time ago. Anyway, I stumbled on an original owner '78 Silver Anniversary corvette that's been sitting outside since 1993. It's an automatic but, I don't know the mileage. The paint is all cracked especially on both bumpers. What's it worth? Thanks.

Whatever you offer in all liklihood.... although you may find it's not for sale "because we're gonna fix it up someday, and it's a real rare car because it's the only one in this county with this color, and engine, and is the only one that's been rotting in my side yard for the last 10 years or so."

Unless it's free or nearly so, you'll dump in more money than you could ever hope to recoup. That's a shame and hard to say, as I owned a '78 Silver Anniversary and it was as nice a cruiser as I could hope for.

The one you're talking about has been sitting that long and the paint is what you say, probably has serious problems underneath where you can't easily see...rusty birdcage, frame issues, etc.

I'd let it pass. The car simply doesn't have the restored value to be worth it.

Thanks. I'm going to pass on it.

Unfortunately these later C3's will never have the value of a C2. So many good cars where sooner or later pushed out of the corner of the garage to make room for other stuff and covered outside with a tarp that lasted 6 months and did no good anyway and suffered in the weather to the point of being worth a few parts.
Not the power of a C2 but I love my 2 '78's and have a blast driving them.

To clarify, is it a "Silver Anniversary" Edition with the 2 tone silver paint, or just a garden variety 1978 that has the 25th Anniversary emblems on it? People confuse the 2.

All 78s are 25th Anniversary models. Silver Anniversary refers to the optional B2Z two tone paint scheme.

My two cents....The c3s WILL be worth what the c2s are now as they are getting older but WILL NOT ever be worth more than the c2s. Remember the old rubber bumper camaros that you could buy for 500 bucks 10 years ago?>>>> now a 500 rubber nose camaro rarely exsists. I remember my dad telling me his mom sold a 57 nomad for 50 dollars, As days past that 50 turns to 5000 dollars. Old chevys will never go down in value. Just deciding how much your goin to have to invest versus how long in time it will take to make money and recoupe your investment is the question. As some cars bought and restored will be worth more than you spent only after you start pushing up daisys.
