1976 Widebody Frame Off By A Newbie
So I recently acquired a 1976 corvette that had been abandoned behind a house I bought. I knew nothing of corvettes other than the fact that one was sitting on the back deck of this house. At first glance under the old tarp that was thrown over it I noticed that the nose on this car looked a little funny to me. So I did a little research and found out that this funny front end was the Ecklers version of the recently sold ($500,000) John Greenwood Sebring 75. This and the fact that after lifting one of the valve covers off I discovered brand new roller rockers and adjustable springs has set me on a mission of a frame off restoration.( I was just going to part out the car and make a few bucks) I found out that the car has been sitting for around seven years and that the previous owner had been in the middle of a frame off himself on the car when he unexpectantly died. Because of the climate of southern Louisiana and it sitting outside but under cover, all the body mounts and exterior rubber components need to be changed as well as all metal is needing some attention. The car was up on jack stands and so will also need some wheels. I just today removed the engine which is about the last thing I have to remove before I deliver the frame to get it dipped and e coated. I have had a blast working on this car so far and decided to share the process with anyone who cares to follow it. I have taken tons of photos of each step in the dismantling of the car and have several plastic storage compartments with every nut bolt and whatever I have taken off the car labeled and cataloged. I'm not a trained mechanic and I'm sure there will be questions I have and new things to figure out in this process. I welcome any constructive comments ,questions and guidance. I will be updating this forum as often as possible and look forward to the interaction with you guys and gals.

This is the John Greenwood 1975 Sebring 75 car and this is what mine will end up looking like with a few color differences and wheel choices

Wide body kits
My car came with a original ecklers wide body kit that is half installed. Does anybody on here have experience with installing these kits. I still have the quarter panels to install and the rear spoiler. I found some photos on the old greenwood web site of cars with there quarter panels cut out and readied for install of the new ones but can't locate instructions of any kind.

Hi NVM,
Well, that's quite an abandoned PROJECT to undertake.
Are you prepared for the effort and $$$ it will take? I hope that $500k Greenwood car hasn't made you see stars.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Hey Alan
Thanks for the input. I didn't mention in the thread that a large majority of the parts to finish the project were in the house that I bought. I have four whole shelving units of NOS parts and did I mention he even left a big craftsman toolbox full in the house too. Right down to wind shield wipers and spark plugs. The engine and transmission are in near mint condition and I am planning on doing a lot of the work myself. I am hoping to get the car back together and painted for about $6000.00. Considering I have next to nothing in it to start I think I can invest this much and be safe on resell. Let me know what you think. I will be doing almost all the work including paint and body work. I'm not in a hurry and I'm not afraid of a little work. I know this car isn't a greenwood but i'm building it for me to drive and enjoy the process. My first task is to get it up and running. From there we will see. This car seems to have been really well taken care of. It only shows 28000 miles I know that could be 128000 but the car is really clean considering its been sitting for seven years. Thanks again and please do keep in touch

earthquake 68 those wheels do look awesome on just about any car in my mind. The ones in the pic are craigar draglites. Craigar no longer makes them. Now they are made by Weld and available from Summit and Jegs. Be sure to send me a pic if you put them on your Impala

The Frame is striped
Today marks the two week point since I started striping the frame to get it dipped and powder coated. It is something to see a bare frame sitting there and hope you took enough photos and organized the parts enough to get it back together again. Photos will come tomorrow. Next I need to order all rubber mounts anybody got some input on poly mounts and who has the best bang for the buck???
