Windshield Molding Seals and Caulk
I am gathering parts and materials needed to reinstall my windshield and Roof Support Reveal moldings.
Looking at the AIM it appears the foam strip is installed between the windshield pillar and molding? The AIM calls for cement between the weather strip retainer and molding. What have others used here?
I see sealing compound spec'd between upper reveal and roof center support reveal molding. More spec'd at the other end of the roof support. Think it's some sort of caulk. More of this in the inside corner of the windshield post molding where the edge of the windshield frame fits in. Use body seam caulk?
It looks like the foam strip material is called for under the roof support molding, between the windshield header bar and main roof support molding. Assume it's for anti-rattle more than a seal. Who supplys this? I see Corvette Central sells a pair of strips for the pillars but not for the header.
Is the weatherstrip glued into the retainer? The AIM seems to say it should be.

Hi BB,
Look at the link HD provided for some good pictures. You can see the foam strip on the rear of the large ss trim piece in post #17.
The foam strip on the large ss trim was about 1/8" to 3/16" thick with adhesive only on the side that stuck to the ss trim.
The foam strip on the a-pillar trim was VERY thin and had adhesive on both sides.
I reused mine so I'm not sure just what's available.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Alan
Yes, the a-pillar weatherstrip was glued to the retainer.

I am having a little trouble trying to comprehend how the windshield pillar molding assembles. The question being where does the long “foam strip” with adhesive backing go? Is it between the reveal molding and the windshield pillar or between reveal molding and the weather-strip retainer? Why is it so long? When I disassembled it the foam was stuck to the pillar and some to the reveal molding. However someone had been there before and the work has not always been correct.
Thanks
Scott
