Does anybody remember a Road&Track article?
I sort of remember a hilarious little story in Road&Track magazine from the mid to late 1980's. It was titled something like 'Corvette racers from a Sprite racers point of view'. It talked about stuff like 'Corvette racers had side pipes the size of storm sewers that blew your tent down' and 'they wore white t-shirts with a carton of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve and had names like Buck'. I seem to recall something about wrenches so big you had to have a separate drawer in your toolbox for each one. I was just hoping someone had a copy of that. I worked in a Corvette race shop back then and we put it on the wall of the office and everyone got a kick out of it.

Peter Egan who still contributes to R&T wrote that article in his "Side Glances" column. I always knew the SCCA "ninnies" with Brit cars had Vette Envy, the article proved it.

I've got a copy of the article stashed away somewhere in one of my archives boxes.

I have no idea about the article. But I vividly remember tears running down my face from laughter when reading some of the articles and cartoons of Miraculous ***** in the Easy Rider magazine. I'm cracking up right now thinking about them Would love to read the article in R&T though.

Peter Egan is an icon. One of my idols growing up I read every one of his articles in Road & Track and Cycle World.
A couple years back I had the unbelievable experience of talking to him personally. He almost bought a vintage Harley XLCR from me. Sadly the deal did not happen but still the experience of meeting one of your heroes was a major win for me.
A few months back a Jag he used to own showed up on BaT. Mr. Egan himself had some comments in the auction. My own Egan-story is there if you feel like sifting through 300+ comments lol.

2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
This piece is so utterly hilarious, not to mention true, of course, that I cannot wade through it without laughing. This photocopy was shared with me by a friend ages ago. Earlier this year he called, had forgotten he'd sent it to me, and wondered if I might know of the article. Through a number of moves he'd long lost his collection of R&T mags. He had bought one of the correct issue on Ebay. The article had been torn out. He bought a second one... same deal! IIRC, it was on the back of a fold-out, Corvette related piece.
But, I have to say, having for the first time heard a SOHC 427 Ford this weekend, I think it tops Peter's description of an A-Production Corvette. OMG, what an incredible beast!

Having this article on my wall for near 36 years...I agree...its the BEST.
I have owned a Bug-eye Sprite and I love the jewelers screwdriver bit, as well as the caterpillar tractor Socket set thing.
Thanks for bringing it up again!

great article. enjoyable thread. reminds me a little of something similar. a million years age a guy named Bugatti said W. O. Bentley made the finest racing motor lorries there ever were.
