Could someone explain to me please? .. was the "shipping Data Report" lost or hidden for a long time and just been discovered by NCRS and offered to all C3 owners? .. or did GM just decided to release it exclusively to NCRS? .. I'm puzzled because I kept hearing that GM lost all the pre-'87 or something documents due to a warehouse fire, so I don't know from where did they bring this kind of information.

I haven't had time to look but I wonder if dealer numbers repeat when one goes out of business and another begins ?

Without the year of the source of those deaaler codes they won't help much. The codes changed through the years. The NCRS dealer code section has the years of the codes known and the source of the info.
If someone adds a code they nfound on paperwork from say a 80 truck that says 07 100 is Joe Blow chevy in Dallas Tx, then Someone had a 69 Vette and all they know is 07 100 that may or may not be Joe Blow Chevy.

Kinda sorta. Possibly not lost or hidden, just forgotten about. It is not applicable to all C3s. 77-81 owners can obtain copies of original dealer invoices, so they don't need the shipper info. Prior to this, nothing was available for 76 and older cars.

Reading between the lines, I get the impression some NCRS members uncovered the info. It's my understanding the information may not have originated through GM. It's car shipper information and may have come from the transport company GM contracted with to ship the cars. Regardless, the GM Heritage Center had to give the okay to release the information.

There was no fire. GM did not keep individual build records on the 53-76 cars. They contracted with the Allied-Vaughn Company to microfiche dealer invoices on the 77-81 cars, something they had not done for previous model years. The plant at Bowling Green was not supposed to have kept build records for the cars assembled there, but they did and turned the records over to the National Corvette Museum following approval from GM. Some 81-82 owners can get coopies of build records from the NCM.

There has long been a rumor that individual build records might exist. GM has authorized two separate searches for the records and both have come up with nothing. GM's official position is that the records do not exist.

It's interesting that $1 million is currently being offered, no questions asked, for the records. One Corvette enthusiast obviously believes the records exist and is willing to pay to confirm it.

Here's what was suggested to me about Rosenthal Chevy.
"Rosenthal is still in business and you should give them a call. Ask for the Corvette salesman and explain your situation. I have found that only about 5% of dealers keep their old records. I suggest that you probe a bit about who the original owner of the company was and if he or his children are still in the business. Also you should ask if they can remember any old timers who might have been there in 1971. Those people will still be alive for the most part. The key is to be able to get the ear of someone in the company who is willing to help. It can take a number of phone calls. Rosenthal'swebsite says they were founded in 1954. It is good that the company has been around for so long"

Just found a photocopy of a tank sticker of a 1969 Cortez Silver 427/390 HP coupe I owned a few years back. I should have kept this one - It looked good parked next to the '68 vert in the garage. Wife said I did not need 2 Vettes and one had to go.

Options: ZQ4 (trim), L36, C60, G81, M20, PT6, U69, A01, A31, GS2, J50, H37, N40.

Any help with zone and dealer code ???

Traded emails with Al Grenning. He was able to close the gap and tell me who dealer code 290 in zone 44 was! Added it to the NCRS database just now.
