Fun with Fiber optics....
Fiber optics...
I have been putzing around with my fiber optics which all work, except the passenger front turn lamp,
Very annoying because if I shine a flashlight at either dash end or signal end the optics work,
I plug it into the turn signal housing and no work....weird huh?
My vague guess is somehow when plugged in to the signal housing not enough light is hitting the optics end, and I took a look at the drivers side that worked, it's all the same as the non working passenger side...any hints?
While I was also putzing with the consoles I am curious what is the "trick" to getting the front fiber optics panel out of the center console,
Hope everyone has a great holiday,
Many thanks
Cheers,
P.

Your light guide filiment probably has a crack in it by the housing fitting. You can cut it with a razor blade and put a new ferrule on it. Right angle ratchet screwdriver is what I use for front lense in console.

Bezel mounts from underneath the console. FO connector mounts to that with a screw or two.
Rears run straight to the console trim plate and mount from undeneath.

Hi Bats,
The inside of the housings had a VERY shiny silver finish on them. Some times if the seal leaked a bit, the silver is very degraded and blackish, almost like tarnish. Could this be causing your problem. Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

Thanks guys...it's just weird...all the other optics work good only this one doesnt if all hooked up, but in tests the signal bulb will light it,
I will look into the idea of a crack at the dash end and Alan,
I wondered about the inside of the casing, I would think over time any end could get all tarnished, or if it was cut and fixed it could be tarnished there,
So with a fiber optics cable does it intensify the light, in other words does it allow the light to travel further with better brightness or is limited to the lights power?
