It's probably the same car. Terry told me about it as he had seen (and photographed) the car months before I ever heard about it.
Let me see what I can do with the photos.

when it comes to body imperfections I can see what they mean about it with this all original vette
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcf_w6JD3oE
but with one with a modern respray you shouldnt have to worry about looking like that in 20 years like on this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LNLqas97sM
plus the markadian rebodied one from MV still looks great 26 years latter and that used the same fiberglass construction as a normal vette so I guess its more who did the paint job and put the car together than anything else.
so I'd say hell with it too and go for it as long as the person whos doing it does good work with fiberglass.

New member just found a black 74 vette
I just purchased a 74 vette with one hell of a story. I am just getting started learning all that I can about this car.
Long story short I know a guy with a vette sitting in his back yard for more than 30 years. He bought it in 78 and could not get it to pass smog. So he drove it for a little while with the little red window sticker on it instead of completing the reg. Before this was a problem a neighbor backed into the car and damaged the pass side rear quarter. At this point he parked the car with 34k miles and never drove it again!
Fast forward to two weeks ago when he says come on over you can have it. Don't know what changed but i had to take a second car off his hands that did not run and I think he was trying to make peace with his better half.
What I got was a 74 vette that has been outside covered up since 1978! It is a 454, four speed car with black paint, black interior and it is all original. The only mods I can find is the carb has been changed to a holley and the wheels. Even there I was given the original carb and wheels including the spare!
I took it to a friend who is a chevy man (I am a mopar collector) and he was blown away, he believes the car still has original belts, hoses, plug wires and everything under the hood looks untouched.
Now before you say something like it was a repaint I will tell you the paint code on the door frame has "spec" instead of a recognized code. And yes I have looked for the build sheet in all the usual places and it has not yet been found.
Because this car sat outside for so long it will need an everything restoration, and if it proves to be some sort of special order or COPO car then it deserves to be restored. Only time will tell as I dig for the history of this my latest barn find - sans barn!
Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing the pics of your find! I've never seen a trim tag with "SPEC" listed as the paint code. Looks like you found a car worth restoring. Enjoy and keep us informed of your progress with the car.

I have seen other SEPC paint tags and the cars were black. Looking at the photos I would say that you have an original factory painted black car. The cars that were built in primer the trim tag said PRIME.
Good luck on the restoration and maybe when you pull the tank down you will find the build sheet and have your answer.

I have never seen a trim tag that had PRIME only SPEC even if it was delivered in prime. There is a thread on the NCRS TDB with a 73 delivered in prime and the trim tag has SPEC.

I had ZERO interest in a black on black car. But that's what I ended up with. $7k for a fully driveable example with zero rust and your color preferences go out the window really fast...
Now that I have a black 1970 (originally maroon, then blue, then puke green, now black) I will probably keep it black.
As far as the "...a log of 'flat' surfaces..." thought: Dunno about that one. If there was one car on the PLANET that I could say DOESN'T have many flat surfaces, it is the C3 corvette. The rear deck up to 1976 is the only thing that comes to mind and they "fixed" that later in the generation.
My black paint job was pretty shoddy when it was done, has many years of chips, scratches, and cracks, oxidized, was brought back to life by me, and I STILL think it looks pretty good. From 35 feet away, of course. But cruising down the road, it passes as a black car, not one big paint chip...
