One of the nicest I've seen! Bet you can't wait until the first spring show to show it off!

Good to know about the differences in the tanks, buddy has a '73 vert and we work together a lot. One of the things I find interesting about our cars, same generation multiple differences. Keeps us on our toes.

I too would like to know the cleaning secret. Right now I'm thinking the $25 for a new tank is worth it. These engine bay threads give me hope for mine, that it can be done.

Amazing job there Sarge.
My tank is very brittle and stained also. I have just put it back in as is because I am terrified of breaking it. My next problem will be "Do I try and click the cap on or leave it not secured properly"?
Dont you just love these old cars?????

Have a great day.
Kneel.

Beautiful engine compartment, I have wanted to change the stock intake manifold on my 1974 454 to an Edelbrock, but am told it won't fit under my stock hood. Did you have any problems with your's?

Wouldn't the intake bolt heads be painted orange? I thought engines were built then sent down a line and sprayed orange, this resulted in some years like 69's with the alum intake having overspray on the edges of the intake and some years with the exhaust manifolds getting painted.

Good question, I'm not sure, but you might be right. Should I paint my manifold bolt heads, to be correct????

Overspray or not, that's nicer than the boys in St. Louis ever produced.

Terrific work!

To answer my own question, I just found a color pic of an orig BB engine, unmolested.Intake bolts are orange, so is shield supports, vacuum line clip, thermostat housing and bolts (now all flaked off), and about 1 inch of the bypass hose at the front of the intake is painted orange.
You have to remember these engines were assembled bare and sent down a line to be painted, parts weren't painted separately like pan or heads, this is why some bellhousings are orange or bare aluminum with overspray on them. I have an original intake for a 69 427/390 aluminum with the spots of orange paint on the edges, taken of a survivor car.
