Why is the '69 considered the best year of the C3s?

I first saw the reference to 69s being preferable to other model years in an article about buying several years ago. The author of that article was of the opinion whatever first year problems the 68s might have had were worked out by the start of 69 production. The author did not state how he/she knew that and offered no evidence to support his/her opinion. His/her second point for a 69 buying preference was numbers (availability). There were a bunch of 69s produced due to the long model year run.
Buy what you like and don't worry what the media folks have to say.

Who really cares ...lol... We each have our own preferences and to be honest I see no difference in a 69 70 71 or 72 for that matter....I;d stay away from a Project 68 because of all the small differences these cars had ...but I;d hop on a fully restored 68 in a heart....
I happen to currently own a 64 72 76 79 88 and a 98 corvettes by far my favorite car is the 64 ....BUT my favorite car to drive (and that is what this hobby is all about in my opinion ) is my lowly l48 4 speed 76....
Its just a nice all around car that still turns heads, and gets my adrenaline flowing .... so it gets a lot of use ...
To me the best year C2 C3 C4 C5 or C6 is there one you own or the one you enjoy driving the most... If you guys think I;m going to take my 64 stock solid lifter 4 sp 365 hp car out and red line the tack in 1st or second your nuts.... Nor do I run the 72 like I stole it for much the same reason ... BUT I think nothing of red lining the 76 and cutting the corners ....

The 454 is a compromise, longer stroke, less RPMs? Going from memory..69 in general is my favorite year for many muscle cars, Camaros, Mustangs, Firebirds, etc.. But I'll stick with my 70 (or 71 if I didn't own one already) for reasons stated earlier.

Because you don't have to bend over and vasoline up to purchase replacement front grilles
If there had been a 69 LT-1 option, that is the Vette I would own. Since there isn't I'll stick with my 70 and 72 Vettes.

For me it's because in 69 you could order a black, black, black, 427/435, convertible. (Yes, the 68 is close but the 69 had some of the 68 bugs worked out).

I think some of the idea of a '69 being the "best"...(full disclosure - I have a '69)...has to do with image:
Cars from the '70s have the image of being de-tuned and are derisively referred to as "smoggers". While this may be true of later cars in the '70s, it's not true of the early ones, but they're still tagged with it.
The 427 engines. A magic number...not to disparage the 454's in any way, but the 454 could generically be found in nearly any line of Chevy cars and trucks as well as motorhomes. The 427 was only recognized as a performance engine (not counting some truck 427's but that was a modified block and not nearly as well known).
