OK, I went and did it anyway.

OK, here's how I did it. I used my 90* die grinder with a sanding disc to reduce the diameter of the chrome trim rings to fit into the recesses in the bumper. I suppose there are lots of different sanders or grinders that would work, the trim rings are chromed plastic. The tail lights are made by Signal-stat, available at most parts stores for around $22 each. I used ultra black silicone to secure a bolt to the back of each light. Then found some valve cover hold downs to use as a cross bar and 1/4" wing nuts to hold the lights centered in the bumper recessed holes. Then I put the trim rings in and drilled 1/16" pilot holes and secured them in place with 3 #6 X 2" stainless steel screws each. I wired them up using heat shrink butt connectors that are available at Wal-Mart or most auto parts stores. The connectors for the lights are straight because the standard 90* connectors would not clear the holes in the bumper. The white wire on the connector is ground, the red is brake/turn and the black is for tailight. The car wiring is black for ground, brown for tail, green for right stop/turn and yellow for left stop/turn. No reverse lights for now, but I plan to use a liscense plate frame with clear LED's for that.

OUCH..... that is hurting my eyes.. Nice, good creativity. I bet they are bright though. Keep the post going, I am interested in your reverse light set up.

do you have closeup of that backup license plate lighting?
and where did you get it? I'm thinking about going that same way.
