Default What is best way to clean white letters on tires?

My tires are clean but the white letters are dingy. What have you guys had success with? Do they still make white wall cleaner?

Bob's got the lock on it. I use a plastic bristled scrub brush after a coating of Westley's. It'll make the letters look like new.

Default cleaning white letters

Yeah wesleys is good but I have found SOS pads to be even better. Just wet all tires down first. Then rub the sos pad gently over the letters leaving a little blue stuff on the letters. Go around and do all 4. Next get a gentle plasic stiff brush and little soapy water and scrub. The blue stuff has now set in and the letters will look new again along with cleaning the tire too. Only disadvantage with the wesley is it does not clean the tires and it has bleach in it too so be a little careful and wear gloves and too much usage will actually fade out letters. Just my 2 cents from those old school bf goodrich and goodyear eagles. Wow do I remeber those cragars and keystone classics like it was yesterday. You know years ago before armor all and tire shines came out we used JOY detergent on on tires to make them shine. My how technology has changed. Richard

I liked the sos pads too. They were easier than cleaning with an Ajax-like powdered cleanser on a wet sponge and give same bright results.

I hate white letters on tires. Though they go well with gold chains, polyester leisure suits and spandex.

JMO, of course.

Westley's Bleche-Wite can be used for the entire tire and rim. I too use a plastic bristle brush, but only on the tires and wheel well's. I us a soft rag for the rims....I swear by this stuff. SOS pads are to harsh, and they do not get to all the little crevice's.

Stay in tune...

I like Comet powdered cleanser with a nylon brush, but anything with bleach will work

Westleys Bleach Wite does work well, but not a good match for certain clear coated aluminum wheel's, as found this out the hard way. Think I'd start with wetting the wheel's, some 409 cleaner, and a small stiff bristled scrub brush before moving to something more aggressive.

Westley's Bleach-White. Spray on outside of tire (entire surface); let soak about 1 minute; use bristled hand brush to scrub the surface to break the dirt loose; shoot with more Westley's and immediately scrub the surface again; flush dirt off the tire.

Now, here's the 'end of the story'. Once the tire is completely dry, use a rag with a few sprays of Nu-Vinyl [polymer protectant] and wipe down the whole face of the tire. Let dry and give another coat. The Nu-Vinyl seals the pores in the rubber so that dirt won't stick nearly as well. The next time you wash the tire, it will dislodge dirt much easier. (And, "no", Nu-Vinyl won't crack, peel, or yellow. It will also block UV so the tire material does not break-down from sunlight.) Just put a fresh coat on each time you wash the tires.
