you start with the basics, first get a vacuum diagram for your car.
Next test your current vacuum your car pulls, normal is around 18 "
around 10" things won't work very well, got power brakes ?
do your headlight and wiper over-ride switches work ?

Hi A,
I'll also suggest that you buy a vacuum pump with a gauge, like a Mity-Vac. It really helps in testing each component individually so you can narrow down the problem.
It's well worth the cost.

Alan
If you can describe what works and what doesn't you'll can get some suggestions on the forum too.
