Gray (Steel Cities) with Brown Interior
It's hard for me to imagine. I've been contemplating a repaint color on my 77 for a long time. I have Tobacco (dark brown) interior and have narrowed my paint choices down to White, Elkhart Green, or now I'm thinking Gray.
Brown interior was an option on lots of years for grey or silver cars, anyone own one and want to share pics? I especially love Steel Cities Gray!
Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh,
I agree that SADDLE interiors were available with the Cortez Silver and Steel Cities Gray colors in the early 70s, but I wouldn't compare SADDLE to TOBACCO.
I think the silver colors look best with black and red interiors.
My Thoughts!
Regards,
Alan

Yeah this is what I was thinking....I would just change the interior over to Black but man is that expensive when it's almost all new anyway.....
It would appear White is once again the leader in the clubhouse....

A few colors I think would go with your interior would be a 68 color "British Green" (color of my 68 Camaro), one of my favorites a 70 color "Marlboro Maroon" , and a C4 color "Polo Green" besides white of course....but not SCG.

I'll have to throw in that Cortez Silver/Bright Blue interior is one of my favorite color combos.

I find the body color to be too important to use something you arent thrilled over just to protect a Tobacco interior which just isnt very attractive.
If you were going with the stock body color, fine, but if you are thinking of changing color, first go with a color you love (not a color you can live with) and just change the Tobacco too. You might be able to sell some of that Tobacco stuff if its new.
Love gray or silver, but not with brown.
If you must keep the Tobacco, white wont save it. Find a green you like. That '75 Bright Green wouldnt look out of place on a '77.

I have to agree with the gray/brown combo as being horrible. If your not going with the trim code colors why not pick something you really like? It sounds like the only reason you're trying to work with the brown interior is because it's new. Sell what you can and get something you will be happy with. You put too much money into one of these cars to live with something you hate.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I dont really like the tobacco interior either but changing every piece seems daunting.......anyone done it and offer advice?
I love Elkhart Green....one of my favorite colors of all time, so is Safari Yellow, I think either would compliment the interior well, particularly the green. Opinions?

tobacco interior
just from a color complementary point of view some type of green might work like you say if you can put up with the interior but the interior in the tobacco color really isn't all that great with much of any color is it to you?
Also, a friend had a vette way back when that was a Laguna Gray which seems to have a different cast to it. Ever seen or considered that? I'd like silver with black interior myself. Laguna Gray might be interesting with clear with a few sparkles in it to modernize it compared to the steel cities gray. I'd sure like the interior to be black or some color other than tobacco with just about any exterior though.
Here's a couple photos of vettes in Laguna Gray. Have never seen one up close myself.

If your interior pieces are in good shape, you can recolor it for [much] less than $100. Just re-dye the pieces you have to the new color you want. Of course, you have to remove all of the interior pieces (except for the dash panels, which you can do in place with proper masking), clean them, and spray on some SEM ColorCoat vinyl dye. That's how all the aftermarket pieces are colored. Why not just do it yourself and save all that money?

SCG with black interior...

I like the gold or yellow if you're going to keep the interior. While I love SCG, it might look out of place on a '77. If you find a mid 70's grey/silver I'd do the interior over red, red pinstripe, redwall tires (or polished pace car rims with the red stripe) and maybe paint the calipers red. This would be enough to make everything pop.

Go to your local Chevy, Buick or GMC dealer and look for a color which would look good with dark brown interior. I saw a Buick Enclave just last night that was a beautiful shade of brown. Not too dark, not too light. I had my 76 painted light driftwood mist and the dark brown interior looks very rich with the color. Get compliments most every time I drive it. Also, you will be almost a one of a kind.
