Goodbye Big Block/4spd...Hello LS2/6speed... and restoration thread
Well, some may think I'm crazy for not only pulling my BB/4speed, but pulling it after only 400miles for a low mile aluminum LS2/6speed. I bit the bullet and the complete dropout should arrive in one week. I'm sure I will missed the torque, but more importantly the sound only a Big Block can make.
So if anyone is wanting low mile (298miles) performance Big Block parts (including engine and Richmond trans) let me know.
Ls guys I'm all ears for your tips and info, reading the LS swap threads now.

I am going the same route. Pulled my 500HP 383 SB for an LS3. My LS3 is in the garage now. Already have the T56 in the car. We can compare notes and issues this fall.

Wow...another LS swap. Congrats.
I noticed my new LS engine sound has the exhaust pulses smoother compared to the BBC 468 that was there where it would be a more rough sound.

Corey, what are the stats on that BB, estimated power, etc... sounds like its not even broken in yet...
Also, just curious, how many different types of LSX engines are there?
LS1, LS2, LS3, LS7, etc. Maybe even the stock specs on each one.
Thanks,

I was under the impression your car was matching numbers if so then yes I think you are crazy. Heck even if it's not numbers matching but period correct I still think you are a little nuts.
Now I have never seen your car so it may be far from stock already anyway. If that's the case then I guess I can see some reason for doing so.

Currently there is nothing done to the car that cannot be reversed, and everything is period correct minus the Auto Meter gauges and CD player.
My goal for the car is to have a driver friendly car I can get in, turn the key and drive to California if I so desire. Sure it can be achieved with a BB/carb setup but it would be this much more driver friendly with the new setup.

Hard to say what you'll actually be missing torque wise, as you're probably taking over 200lbs off the front nose going from a BB. Probably would have gone LS3 though, as the L92 heads really flow. My current Vette's a late model LS7, and head intake flow test's at 360 cfm. Gotta tell you, this thing really screams, and only a few lbs more than other LS's.

Would have loved to have the LS7, but also plan to install steeroids and vintage air along with the engine so it would have eaten up more of my budget.

I'll be watching and taking notes from both your's and Gordon's posts on the Ls installs as it is on my horizon. Will just crate the original Zr-1 engine and tranny in the vette now and upgrade suspension, wheel n tire and put in ac to make it a long distance cruiser. Congrats on your purchases!

After seeing a photo of your present BB car, yes, I think you are nuts unless that motor is not really good for street driving. Having that BB monster in the car and not being able to enjoy it would be too.
Anyway, good luck on the swap. Hope it goes well and you are happy with the results.

Yeah, I considered the LS3, but ran a across a good deal on a LS2 pullout and jumped on it. The $2,000 I saved was worth giving up (to me atleast) the 0.2L especially when I can upgrade the L92 heads and LS3 intake.

Yea, didn't mean to insult, as LS2's actually perform very close to LS3's. Just mentioned the LS7, as that's what I have. Knew you had no intention of going that route, as new crates are about $15K. Keep us informed on how the install goes. For kicks, Holley holds an annual LS fest with a LS swap out conversion contest. Think it was Speed channel, and a group of guys did it in about 30 mins. It included driving the car around for a few hours, showing it was done right. They got to keep the engine.
Post some pics of your LS7, I don't think I've seen it on here.

I was going to go LS2 until the LS3 came up. I did want the LS3 heads but the LS2 is a potent performer. Make sure yo uput in a cam, that really wakes up the LS motors. Even the LS7 can benefit from a better cam. My brother in law has an LS7 in his 67 resto mod and it made 540 rwhp wit hbasically a cam upgrade and tune. He is doing a differnt intake which should add another 30 or so HP. The LS motors really respond to breathing.

Yeah it will get heads and cam later, but want to get everything running first even if it means getting another tune. I'm open to driver friemdly cams you care to recommend.
