OK I have a 77 that came with a l48 170hp to the wheels per the dyno sheet...and it was for sure a turd....I crusie with the C5 and C6 groups a lot and just wanted to be able to keep up not beat them... So I went the best way, I pulled my org motor with 63k miles on it. I then got a GM crate ZZ4 with 360hp, 270hp to the wheels for now.. And I will say that the car for sure is fun to drive now with the new motor..... My next mod to improve the car will be an OD trans that I have sitting in the garage and a set of 373 gears.....and one all this is done ill do the zz4 hot cam package to boost the hp to poss 425...... at this point i will be done, and a good 38k into my 77 lololol but well worth it......
Just sayin..... =+)
i own a few cars all 400 to 500hp.i didnt purchase this c3 to run with the big dogs.i wouldnt want to be smoked by the kid with the honda down the streat.good 300 hp 350 will satisfy me.im already looking at some and i havent even picked up the car yet
You probably missed a decent car.
How much do you think you will have in this one you bought, and what color is it or is that the self eching yellow primer?

I agree, but there is no sense dwelling in what could have been. The one he got looks like a good deal too - and besides that had he bid more than $5,000 the guy who did get it might have kept running it up until it wasn't such a good deal.
The car in my profile picture is a 1977 L48 car. I have never driven a stock one, as this one has a small cam in it. But I have heard that they feel slow from other owners. The mechanic we bought ours from installed the cam, and it has made a world of difference. The car slightly shakes at idle, just to remind you if its power. And when you step on the gas, you can really feel that cam working. I am not sure of exact horsepower numbers as we have not had it dyno'd.
As for the stock cars, I do not believe Chevrolet's 180hp estimate for even a second. There is no way those cars have such low power, absolutely no way.

Keep in mind that 200 net = about 270 gross. It's not as bad as it sounds.

That 180hp number was not an estimate, it was an engine dyno reading which seems entirely accurate when you consider that those cars would run 15 or 16 second quarter mile times.
i have a 79 L48 and with side pipes, no cats, no emissions, and the stock dual snorkel it pulls really well, just not to par either. My 84 has a 400 sbc in it and holly hell this thing is impressive. Edlebrock 800cfm carb and a tunnel intake, cam and heads and this thing puits down 350hp at the crank. Hopefully going to dyno it soon to get more accurate readings. Dont worry buddy, these are not hard to find. Got mine with 32k miles for $2500.
