Default Tire size

OK, I know these conversations have taken place but I can't find them with a search. I am looking for tires for my '72. Wondering how big of a 15 you can get under the fenders and not rub anything?

My stock '72 has 235/60/15's and looks good with no clearance problems. Might be able to go bigger but I like the present look I have.
Duane

Oops, BFG Radial TA's by the way.

That is exactly what I was thinking. It is setting on 225/70/15's right now and I was thinking that 235/60/15's would be perfect but was unsure of clearance problems. Thank you very much.

Kelley, in 1972 the tires that came on our cars was F70 x 15 bias ply nylon cord. the closest you can come to that today is P215/70R15 or P225/70R15. Many people have put 245's and 255's without any rubbing issues (every car is different, some rub in the front when turning a tight radius) Some people like the 60 series radials which have a wider tread but a shorter aspect ratio(shorter from top of rim to the top of the tire).Personally I have my car fitted with the P225/70R15's and the spare fits nicely in the tub.
Regards
Roy

Had 245/60 all around but seemed a little short
Tried 275 rear 235 front, fit no problem but on the stock rim the 275's pulled in so far compared to the 235 front that the white lettering was noticeably closer to the rim and made them look shorter than the front. Would probably look ok black wall out.
Settled with bfg 235's all around, no clearance problems, fills the wheel well.

that's 235-70 and 275-60, both at 28" height (although the 275 got pulled a little shorter)

I don't know if this size is still available, but I ran 265 x50 15's Euro T/A's all the way around on a couple of my '70 Corvettes, no issues.

Currently running 255-60-15's all around. Firestone Firehawk. Front tire rubs inside on hard turns.

235 are too short.
Just stay with the 225/70 and be happy.

235/70 are fine, the 235/60 are a little on the short side.

It is getting more difficult to find tires in this size (I think it's down to BFG, Cooper, Hoosier and M/T, plus the race- Avons), but I think the 245/60-15" fills the wheelwells nicely, and at least on mine they don't rub:

255/60/15 fit nicely in back & are the right diameter for speedo. Many run smaller in front for clearance like 225/70 or 235/60 or 245/60.

i put 235/70/15s on my 73 & they rubbed on the front fender when turning left or right. If u want to stick with 70 series go with 225/70/15 closest to original F70 x 15s these cars came with

I use 235/60 on front and the 255/60 on rear. I have Firehawk Indy 500. Check clearance with brake bracket in rear and bend out of the way with your hand if necessary.

235/60 Firestone Firehawks on mine. Nice lowered stance and tight handling. Love the looks.

If I wanted clearance for off roading I'd go with the 225/70-15. Win/win situation because truck tires are about all that's available in that size.

I don't know what Jay-Dog is running but I have the stock 8" wide 15" dia. wheels on my '72. I have no rubbing problems front or rear with the tires I noted above

I'm looking at the AR Torq Thrust 2.1 in 15x8 with 3.79" backspace. 255/60 front and rear. I may need to consider the 245/60 up front for the clearance.
