Default Removal of Parking Brake Console

I'm replacing the carpet and a few other interior pieces while I will have everything taken apart.

I'm having a helluva time getting the ebrake console removed. Anyone have any tricks/tips to getting this done?

There is a bolt "hidden" in the rear storage compartment. It goes through the luggage stop bulkhead, into the rear of the parking brake console (it will be under the cardboard bin of the center storage compartment). Look or feel behind the luggage stop bulkhead, above the tunnel, and you should be able to find the bolt.

Does the cardboard bin come out or do I have to take the entire storage door assembly off?

You can reach the bolt from the right hand storage bin (where the jack is) if you take the liner out (if it's still there). It's fiddly but do-able and beats taken out the whole compartment with the risk of breaking it.

Usually comes out with the storage compartment trim panel. Order the assembly instruction manual (AIM) and do yourself a favor. The AIM shows how all the rear storage stuff was installed AND shows the hidden bolt.

It will help with your new carpet, but is not a How-To.

Hi d2,
Nick is right that you can reach the bolt from the jack compartment.
I use a 1/4" drive socket and it's pretty easy.
Here's the hole in the bulkhead the bolt passes hrough.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks guys. I was able to get the bolt out last night. A whole lot of cursing along the way wondering why someone would put a bolt in such a God-forsaken place. Also got a bunch of scratches on my arm in the process but its out. Now on to running wires for the new radio and amp before insulation.

The bolt attaches the rear support on the underside of the ebrake console. A long extension of your ratchet helps.

Oh yeah, I know what it does but it seems like there should've been a "better" location or an alternate location for a bolt to secure the console. Regardless, its out.
