tire size question 225/55/15
so i need new tires, and am on a very tight budget, mostly want to get the car on the road for the summer, and the 15yr old tires are a little dry rotted from sitting a garage! anyhow, if i recall, i have 225/60/15's on the stock 73 rims. i know that 225/55/15 wont be a whole lot different, but has anyone run this size before, i found a brand new set of continentals that a guy is selling for cheap.
I see most of you guys running much wider tires, and though it does look pretty good, i always thought the ones on my car were pretty wide looking...that being said i have 235's on my bmw, so what do i know!
anyhow, back to the original question, any issues or insight into a 225/55/16?

Hi T,
The original tires on your 73 were "about" 27" tall.
The 225-50-15 tires will be "about" 24 3/4" tall.
So they will be relatively "fat", but "short"; to my eye the car will look like it's on roller skate wheels.
The tire comparable to your original tire would be a 215-70-15. Many people use a 225-70 so the tire is a little fatter.
Does this matter?
Regards,
Alan

Those tires will not fit the wheel wells very well. In fact the car will not look very nice at all. Then you have to cope with speedometer inaccuracy and I am not sure if you can find gears to make that much of a correction.

those will be way too short

All good advice. Pass on those tires reguardless of price. You are correct in replacing your 15 year old tires but you need to find tires in a size your car can use.
