with trans out...very easy access.....but id pull the bell..inspect it all at same time, be crazy not to....check pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch, if all good simply reinstall...with the following included...antisieze bellhousing bolts, blue loctite on clutch, flywheel bolts, torque to spec...thin coat of wheel bearing grease on trans collar where throwout bearing rides, also thin wheel bearing grease on clutch fork pivot ball and a little on fork tabs

Hi all,
great information! I have a 75 base corvette with matching numbers, auto. Would like to install a 4-speed munic M21, the 3 speed auto just doesn't do it for me. What would it cost to convert to a 4- speed?

Interesting that you post this... Very good to know. I just replaced the Clutch in my 81 a few weeks ago. I was at this step and figured the bearing had to go "The wrong way". The "right way" just seemed to loose. After struggling I decided to (ready for this) "Read the directions" that came with the clutch. NO NOT READ THE DIRECTIONS!!!!!!!
they showed the right way and wrong way. But I am sure most people think it is such a basic job why bother reading the directions....

I think typically you can buy good working used parts, complete for 1200 - 1800 depending - might be ideal to find a parts car that has a 4 speed set up

Thanks BOSTONCAMARO.
I figured it would be around that price, maybe a little more. I hope to go to a couple of meets, car flee markets, craigslist etc, no hurry. It will be a winter project if I come across a good deal.

yeah it seems that often a 4 speed car is more interesting to a lot of people, I know a guy who is a serious collector, has all types of rare cars about 80 in all, all fully restored..he has a rare gto now, but he does drive all the cars so is converting to 4 speed and can always change back later if he wants
