I sure am enjoying working on mine and my wifes 68 corvette coup.
I'm fairly new to the forum I think I'm going on a week now. But just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the help.Alittle history on the car. I picked up a 68 corvette coupe that hadnt been run in 10-12 years but had 64,000 origonal miles on it.It was all complete and straight less the front clip(hence why I'm looking for one )I first removed the plugs and just to be on the safe side put some Marvel Mystery oil in all 8 holes. In the mean time my wife removed the seats and ripped out all of the carpet and center console.(its kind of her car) since I have a blown 427 corvette crate motor 69 chevy nova to play with. Then after it sat a couple days I took a short ratchet so I could tell how much pressure it took to turn it over and it spun with ease,no breaking it loose or anything. I pulled the valve covers and the engine looks brand new inside. Next I installed new spark plugs, drained all the fluids and installed new filters as well, cleaned the carb, new cap rotor and plug wires, installed a new battery with new color coded terminals and bumped it to see if it would turn over. Turned right over,so I bumped it to top dead center and I plan to pull the distrib out and prime it with oil befor trying to start it.I had one setback yesterday someone had left about an inch and a half of gas in the tank. The inside of the tank looks brand new accept where the small amout of gas sat its all crusty looking. So instead of starting the car today for the first time in years I'm planning to pull the tank and I was told to use CLR and marbles. The new carpet kit arrives today as well and I also have a power steering pulley on the way as mine had alittle warp to it.So thats where I am I'll try to post some pictures this weekend.but I must say I enjoy working on it and I can see why you guys alll have one.I'm hoping when the car starts it will run as good as all the innards look.Hopefully Sat I'll light it off. Thanks again.....Dave.....Oh any suggestions on what I'm doing feel free.....Cant believe I spelled coupe wrong in the header....LOL

Wow! A 'significant other' who shares the same Corvette passion. That would be something like "hobby Nirvana"!!

Thanks guys. Got the gas tank pulled last night took me 2 hours, had another setback,I had to order a new one. The old one had a patch on the bottom and then in the process of taking it out another patch on the inside came loose exposing a 3" hole on the outside. Then in another spot if I pushed on it you could see liquid squish through and area that had rust/hairline cracks. So I ordered a Corvette America reproduction with the stamp, its supposed to be exactly the same in every way. It seem to be the best one available and was about 50.00 more then then the next best repro. Hope I chose the right one. Would you guys use the old gauge/sending unit or buy a new one.The old one looks like new but I havnt tested it yet. In the mean time I'll have all the brackets for the tank and spare tire powder coated.I think I'm just going to run a fuel line into a gas can and see if she runs,I just cant wait a week for the tank ,to excited to see if she runs.

Don't know about the quality of a Corvette America tank but if I were buying a new one I would get a Quanta tank.

Car kind of started for the first time. Turns out my fuel pump is bad I'm going to go buy another today if I can find one locally.I did pour alittle gas down the carb and it ran for about 10 seconds.WOW...did it sound strong.I didnt see any oil come out of the rocker arms the few times I tried it made me alittle nervous. Also when I tried to prime it with the distrib out it seemed like it would build pressure as it spun and then I had to stop let the pressure bleed off then spin it some more.I think its due to tight clearances.

I do need to take recent pictures because the car is all complete now less the grill brackets and a few misc small items.
In fact our new project I got about 2 months ago is a 1975 coupe (going to be wifes daily driver since the red one came out so pretty)Blue with blue interior,350 chevy with supposedly 50,000 on it and the origonal 4 speed, and the paint job is a 10 footer. My wife allready gutted the interior, scrubbed and vacuumed everything, put in sound deadener,we installed a new carpet kit as well as a complete glove box compartment and an updated stereo. The interior now is beautifull and looks new.I also installed origonal bumpers/covers,it still needs a windshield, the carb tuned, and the rear brake leak fixed...All and all its starting to be a really nice vette.....Then to decide if the value warrents a paint job.....Any thoughts
