Default Replacing carpet in 1980, few questions.

Hey guys, just wanting your opinion on heat and noise reduction shields that go along with carpet replacemant. Which one, if any? Does it make installation turn out not as good due to thickness. Im buying from wilcox and replacing all carpet. What is the best route? In other words, is it worth adding to carpet installation? Thanks in advance!

The factory floors already have spray on sound deadening and lay in insulation. AIM shows what they did at St. Louis. You can add a product like Reflectix without affecting carpet fit.

I agree with Mike, Reflectix is a great product, doesn't affect the spacing, even under the pedals, and will reduce the heat from the exhaust and engine dramatically... I also used Dynamat for sound deadening. I'd recommend that as well.

I just repalced the original carpet in my `73 and put down Reflectix before installing the carpeting. I've done it in past C3's without issue, but for some reason, I had to really push down on the seat bolts to engage the capture nut - - -once I cranked `em down, it was just fine . . .but might take a bit more finessing thatn without.

Still- absolutely worthwhile in my view.

So using reflectix and dynamat would not add too much thickness?

I have used Dynamat on several projects. Dynamat is some of the best money you will ever spend if you want to kill road noise and improve your ride. Did not even move the needle on effecting the carpet thickness. You can get an extreme pack from Amazon.com for $134.oo it takes about 12 sheets to do the WHOLE interior of the car. 9 sheets per box. Have fun!

PS be sure and wear rubber gloves handling this stuff though you can get Aluminum Toxicity...and it sucks!

I did my 76 with SecondSkin all over the cabin and then put some reflectix down. I got carpet from Wilcox, too and could not believe how well it fit in. No problems at all.

Either, or. You do not honestly need both.

I did my 80 a few years ago and used the foil 2 sided from Home Depot , cost $20 and it works great for sound and heat.Ron

I only had trouble getting the center console to fit right. Finally removed some of the Reflectix and left the Dynamat in. Then pushed down hard until the screws fit.

I really wonder how well Reflectix works. Not really made for cars. Maybe people just imagine it works. But it does make the carpets extra cushiony and soft.

Now I remember, I also had to remove some reflectix around the foot pedals.

I have driven the car since I last posted and was really impressed...what a huge difference the dynamat made! The only noise I was getting was from the storage areas....didn't dynamat them because you could see it...may have second thoughts on that or try something that I can put in and take out...
Worth every penny and effort of putting it in!!!!!!
No problem with anything fitting or interference with foot controls...

I am not sure how well the reflectix works either since I have nothing to compare it to. I used the stuff from Menard's and it was about $15 on sale so I figured why not. It was easy to install and can't hurt.

what happens if water gets under the matting?...some of this series of Vettes have metal floors, and they all leak......
