besides this? "Of 216 L88 Corvettes made in 1968"

was 216 the total number 67 thru 69? I don't recall each year off the top of my head.

...yep, that's the mistake. It was 20 in '67, 80 in '68 and 116 in '69. You'd think when they auction these high dollar cars they'd at least get their facts right.

Okay. There may be 216 68 L-88s now.

It's a beautiful car. I'm curious about the choice of R&S over possibly B-J or Mecum.

I agree but in hindsight it was a very good move for the seller. It will be interesting to see how the Lemans blue 68 L88 convertible does at Mecum Indy. I know both cars well and in my opinion, the blue one is better.

I'll be driving this original paint, mostly unmolested one to a car show tomorrow. The speedometer will likely turn over 4,000 miles.

You're very fortunate to be able to actually ENJOY a real L88.

Once in a lifetime opportunity for this old boy. I'm sure the owner actually enjoys it...his entire life has been devoted to working on these cars.

I think the blue one is better mostly because of the correctness of the restoration plus the fact that the blue one has almost all original or NOS parts on it where the silver one could be dailed in more with better parts and some finishes that should be redone. I am not bashing the silver car, in fact I like it very much. I have seen both and if I had a choice, I would take the blue one over it, IMHO.

Here are some more pictures for you, because you asked. I am not trying to make anyone jealous and only sharing information that is already out in the public domain.

Period correct Hoosiers and Torq Thrusts. Perfect original paint.

Off-road exhaust, Florida black plate from '68. Nice touch.

Original motor with smog pump. Did somebody say numbers matching?

Original vinyl and carpet. Unbelievably perfect. Real time capsule.

Check out the odometer. Believe it. The car was displayed at Bloomington Gold's L88 Invasion in 2008. It was bought for drag racing and rarely driven on the street. Randy Geyer, the original owner, soon became interested in motorcycles and stored the car in the garage. It was sold in the late 80s with 3600 miles on the odometer...slicks, open headers and no exhaust. Randy was given the opportunity to once again drive the car in the L88 parade at Bloomington...which is available as a YouTube video. Google it. I believe it is the 2nd or 3rd car to go by the camera.

And here it is, along with my '69 L36. Check out what is sandwiched in between...a real '67 L88...formerly raced as the Flying Dutchman. It's motto was that it always won, unless it broke. Back in the day...the name was placed on the door with black shoe polish.

I drove the '68 to the show and the '67 back to the shop. I am grinning like the Cheshire Cat and will be for some time to come. The '67 is beyond words...the car is a beast, so radical it will barely idle until it warms up. The dual disc clutch grabs...you cannot just drive it like a normal big block. It is pushing over 600 hp and runs on VP's C-12 race fuel at 108 octane. The M-22 whines so smoothly and the Hurst shifter is tight as can be. Forget about stomping on the accelerator...even squeezing it down in 2nd or 3rd is not possible. The acceleration is beyond words...took my breath away. We can all only dream of having something like this to drive.

Hopefully anyone who reads this will have sweet L88 dreams tonight...I know that I certainly will.
