Default Factory holes in the floors??

I was underneath my 82 this weekend and noticed a perfectly cut quarter size hole in the front floor on both sides. It looks to be factory punched but there were no plugs. Is this normal??

If you are talking about the floor area where your feet rest when in the car, there are drain holes in the floor there. Same thing on our '77. Here is a plug kit for the floor area. You use these in the rear storage area under the battery etc as well.

They pop in from the outside easily

No need to lift the carpet unless the old ones got pushed in somehow

Hi,
The puzzling thing is that the plugs were installed from the INSIDE of the car originally.
So when the foot well was full of rain water you had to lift the carpet to get the water to drain out.
You COULD push the plug out from below, but then you still needed to remove the carpet to replace it.
???
Regards,
Alan

I was under my car this weekend too and noticed mine are also gone. I wonder if someone pushed them up and they're under the carpet

actually, I found one of the long cone ones on the floor. I must have knocked it off when I was under there. hahaha

The AIM for our '77 shows the drain plugs in the front not the solid plugs.

Which is why I put them in from the bottom (just to make the NCRS guys weep a little)

On the Nova's etc. there was a big oval panel with a flange lip that installed from the inside also, I guess maybe it rained a lot inside the factory during assembly and that's when they needed to drain them???

That long, pointed drain plug is for the battery compartment. If the battery acid were to spill or overflow, that long drain keeps the acid from getting on the metal car parts (when car is in motion).

Mine were missing also and was the source for the musty smell in the car. Imagine that your underlayment can get wet repeatedly from rain, car washes, etc. Just enough to wet things and let mildew grow. Sealed off the holes. Removed the underlayment when putting down dynamat and cleaned carpet underneath with clorox. Now no musty smell. Its a common problem - the missing plugs.

You should have 4 of these(rt in pic)for your year. Floor pans, bat comp and jack comp.
Earlier C3s just had this in the battery compartment with plugs in the other 3 holes.

Al: page through the underbody section of your AIM. It shows all the factory holes, front and rear. Several of them have factory plugs. Some of them are not plugged.

You'll find lots of stuff there. The floor plugs, factory soundeadener; how it was welded up, etc.

I'm not sure if the car is crazy because of me, or I'm crazy because of the car!?!?
