When I replaced the fuel tank on my '71, I noticed it had 6 holes glassed over where there used to be a rack. Wish I had one. Mark

No offense to anybody, but I think all racks on a C3 are hideous. Just my 2¢.

Interesting....the OP never asked if it was a good idea to install a rack or not....never asked for a poll on how many folks liked them or not....never asked how many removed them and why....all he wanted to know was what type would have been used in 68.

Not every CF member has mechanical knowledge to share. Instead they share opinions whether asked for or not!

Funny thing about a luggage rack on a 'vette...

I think they all look out of place, so when I do paint I may take it off...

Problem is, with such limited space inside, even a weekend getaway will require more room than is available in the back of the C3. Unless, of course, you'd like to encourage your lady to just go naked.

Absolutely correct!

Every poll that mentions luggage racks turns into a bunch of people arguing back and forth about whether or not luggage racks are horrible, or awesome.

I personaly believe that is all depends on your personal taste, and what the intended use of your car is. I use mine every chance I get, and have hauled all kinds of impulse buys in (or most times on) it. I keep a couple of straps in with the jack just in case I need them.

And since we have gotten TOTALLY off topic, here are some cutting boards I made for my wife with the 4' X 6' piece of Corian I hauled with my 72 convertible - strapped to the luggage rack.

LOL!!!!! For pulling the 'Vette out of your garage? I love it!

Well, thanks for the offer, but I'm still not sure

I'm getting a lot of ideas from everyone nice enough to respond..I appreciate it! That said, I'm still on the fence. I just bought a '68 and I'll be taking it to my Corvette mechanic, judge and all around BRAIN on such things...I'm sure I'll get an earful from him as well. I'll make my decision then....

Thanks,

BD

While we're answering questions that were not asked- the racks were not a factory option in 1968, dealer installed only. Right side mirrors were the same, dealer only.

Personally, I like a rack. My car has one, a six-holer. That said, if I had a car without a rack, I wouldn't go adding one.
Doesn't NCRS deduct points for a rack?

And c69vete answered his question right off the bat. I'm willing to bet GB was typing at the same time as c69.

Default Additional rack question?

To add to the OP's question.....Was the "wooden" contact paper installed on the original dealer installed racks in 68? Or for that matter, what years? The previous owner removed the contact paper from my 71's rack, but it was on the rack when it was installed in 72 according to the owner at that time.

Hard to see in the small picture but it's the only one I have.....
