Default *** '68 interior pillar post trim ***

Just to confirm - did the factory use screws to hold these in place??? I am thinking "no". My early '68 has 2 screws holding each one on to the w/shield pillar - no plastic mounting tabs on the backside of the trim panel. Possibly the work of "bubba" to hold the panels on. Thanks in advance, BK3

I don't believe the 68 have trim screws except at the windshield header. Mine have velcro fasteners on the trim and the post.

Hello Lou - thanks for the reply. I am guessing if my interior trim panels are original(???) (OEM) the velcro mounting tabs "must of " fallen off (I assume they were glued (?) on the backside of the trim panel). Therefore, the previous owner used the screws to secure the trim panels to the w/shield pillar - no velcro mounting tabs on the w/shield post either - holes are present just no tabs. Thanks guys, for clearing that up for me. Regards BK3

Blair, my 68 didn't have pillar post trim when i took delivery, so i bought repros from a vendor. On the pillars themselves were old pieces of Velcro - to which the repro's velcro did not line up, so I had to add a few strips. The only screw was at the top, which also serves as the mounting screw for the visor.

Hello Mike - good to hear from you. I hope all is well with you. Your repro pillar post trim looks great. If you don't mind me asking - where did you purchase them from??? Thanks for the pics. BK3

Blair, I will double-check my file tomorrow at home, but believe it was either Zip, Corvette America or Corvette Central.

My late October 68 also had only 2 screws in it. It was just vinyl covered foam, no fastners, no metal strip to even rivet a fastner to. Now I wish I still had it, but it was in such bad condition I tossed it.

Interesting, John. Were they the original OEM pillar post trim on your car??? The same set -up as the ones I posted pics of??? Wonder if maybe that was an early model only method of attaching the trim to the pillar post later to change to the Velcro tabs.

They looked like the one in your pic. If I had to take a wild guess I would say they were original...but who knows. Damn I wish I kept that for refrence.

I know the feeling John - years back I had the original e-brake console from my '68 - had a few minor cracks and was faded. I thought I would replace it with a repro. In my young and dumb ways I broke the original into pieces and discard it. ARRRRRGH - excuse me while I go and kick myself in the azz. - LOL.

Although - Avalonjohn came to the rescue with a superb OEM replacement. I owe him big time.

You mean a '68 built in October of '67 - right?
I'll look at mine tomorrow and report back - I have a July built car.

I just checked mine - just the one screw at the top at the visor.
So 2 total per car.

Here is what mine look like on early 68 (Sept 67 production). Still on the car and in need of replacement. Same two screws. I too, have no idea if the screws are original or added later to keep the trim snug to the pillar post.

It's actually the same THREE extra screws there. And both you and the OP have them. (OP shows hole in pic)
The only "legit" screw so far is the one at the visor mount.

I don't know if it's an early '68 thing - or Bubba.
But I do know that yours an the OP's are in different places. Particularly the middle screw of the three.

One of us outta look in the AIM...

-W

EDIT: (at the time I posted this I missed the one coming up from the underside - AIM led me to it)
