Ha good humor. The owner of the Vette's name happens to be Rusty. Hopefully it's not synonymous with the car. Probably covered in another thread, but how much effort is required in removing the god awful luggage rack?

Where do you look for the engine stamp again? And what numbers do you look for here

I totally stole these pad pictures from another member post on one of the endless pad discussion threads on here.

The pad is located in front (the radiator side) of the passenger side head. You are looking for an assembly code, which has the factory location prefix, date code and suffix telling you the engine option. (a 1969 4 speed 427/390 would be "MH" for instance).

The other number would be the VIN derivative, which will contain the VIN sequence number that "matches" your body VIN (windshield post and frame) and title. This is the essence of what "matching numbers" is.

Page 3:

Overall Impression:
This Corvette presents itself very well and is in overall very good condition for this vintage. Engine started easily and ran good, car was not driven. This car has had a lot of good quality work to restore the interior to near-new quality. I have owned Corvettes since 1973 including a 1969 convertible. I currently own a 1975 coupe that just turned 40,000 miles that I purchased new. It was very enjoyable to have the opportunity to evaluate the above described Corvette and I was very pleased to find it in such good condition. I would be happy to discuss my evaluation of this vehicle with anyone who has questions. The dealership can make arrangements for you to contact me.

3 things jump out at me on the report. Frame:some rust. You would need to get a good look at that. I assume he's talking surface rust. Non original motor pretty much explains the price. The color looking not quite correct and with pin striping. If it's an original big block car with these issues $15,000 might be in the ballpark. Good luck

Vettebuyer,
thanks for the more accurate pricing on the jack.
I forgot about Carlisle.
As for bargaining, he should go into the deal as if it needs the following and aim high.
I feel if I sound a little educated on the car I'm looking at then the
seller will hopefully blow less smoke.
When you just are walking by and see something that catches your eye and you start towards it they got the hook in.
A replacement jack from the vendors or Craigslist could be more.
I see you have bought and sold so your experience trumps mine.

Joe,
I just saw you needed info on block #'s etc...
A very friendly word of advise. If you really and I mean really want this car
then stop by a local corvette club and bribe a c-3 guy whos been at it a while to
go look at the car and pick it apart.
I purchased a driver also last fall(68 BB) but I had some prior knowledge of these cars
and their flawed areas.
A bad frame is more than an oopps purchase. NOM engine not a big deal as seller is not trying to get $36,000 for it. No P/S means your going to work a little turning from a stopped position. Got to drive the car as each one has a soul of it's own.

Different people have differing perspectives on this point- I'm in the camp that believes whether or not it "was" originally a BB car doesn't mean anything any more value-wise, unless the buyer is planning to drop in a fake restamped engine. A car with an NOM is an NOM forever, regardless of what it "used to be." YPRMV.

PS, that said, this car could still be a decent buy.

I happened to be in the area and swung in quick and took a look. I couldn't stay long so I tried to get a few shots underdneath. Frame looks a bit like another '69 I looked at in the Twin Cities. The paint definitely isn't perfect. It has cracks around the front fenders, and rear taillights. Chips and scratches here and there. Wish I could have stayed longer.
