Lost and found 68 motor

Lost and found 68 motor
Hi gents.
I'm needing a little help so I can in turn help a lucky owner of a 68 vette convertible. I ended up with a very intact 68 motor with absolutely everything including the full smog, trans, all brackets, pulleys, fan etc in a package deal. I've got no need for the motor and was gonna list it on craigslist when someone suggested I run the numbers. The stamp was legible so I googled the numbers as a coupe with no hits, then tried it as a vert and blamm!, it was listed on "international blue"s 68 registry as a green car. I sent him a pm but doubt he's got any 1st hand knowledge of the car. Is there some sort of lost and found registry with contact info? Any suggestions on how to contact an owner knowing only the vin would be greatly appreciated. I found the motor in Oregon and it's a green car. I'm not prepared to list the vin. at this time. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
So you found the actual owner, but can't contact him or he doesn't reply !
Here is an other registry page, may be it works better as they work with E-Mails rather than PMs.

My VIN is 1391 , so very early 68. Pls feel free to contact me if this VIN matches.

I'm still looking for the owner. The vin is not in the linked registry but it is in the thread that I listed above. The motor is the base 327/300hp auto and the vin ends in "88".

I'm having trouble understanding the reference you make to another thread. Could you give us a better link?

Could be it already has an original block installed?
Seriously, kind of you to make the effort, best of luck connecting with the current owner.. Could make the owners day!

If it was a big block, it would have really made his day. A 327/300hp, not so much. Good luck on your quest. BTW, how much do you want for the complete engine? I would like to buy some parts off of it.

Hi
If one could confirm that the smog system ( pump , valves etc ) are the same as for the big block, I would be interested in this.
Yes, I know that the injection tubes are not the same, but the rest I don't.
I do not mind if the pump is operative or not.

I'm not sure how long or how hard I'm gonna make the effort yet. It will be for sale if the owner doesn't come forward or I find a way to run a vin and track the owner. Everything other than the block is for sale @ this time. Smog, brackets, pulleys, manifolds, dizzy, etc......keep in mind, EVERYTHING was there from fan to exh. hanger, carb to pan. The block was cast H-9-7 and everything is relative. There is also a standoff bracket to the driver's side of the dist. which may be for the cruise modulator??

This is most likely an effort in futility and if it was a 427 car or even a 350hp car it would change things a little. As of now I'm gonna store the long block and the next time I trip over it, I'll sell it. The components will be advertised on here as soon as I get pics ready and then they go to ebay. I am prepared to list the vin. now .... 194678S402188 .. or at least this is the vin listed in the cyber registry in the link I posted above. The only reason I didn't post it first off, I was thinking there's a possiblity the car has a #s match motor of some variety and the present owner was innocent. Again, I'm fairly confortable playing amongst the chevelle community but had no idea how the corvette game was played....I'm learning real quick that it's like comparing 21 to blackjack.
Again, there's no contact information on any of the listed vin#s, just a color if known. It could very well be a car discovered in a wrecking yard, a non-internet savy owner or many other possibilities. I use google to search the vin$ of my 69 chevelle SS every so often in hopes of getting a hit and use this practice every time I run across an interesting motor. This may exist already, but it would be a great practice to start a lost and found motor registry in various collector forums with vague contact info to make this a whole lot easier.
