Default 73 Radiator Support

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the BB radiator support and one for a SB car? I'm trying to buy a replacement from a forum member that is parting out his car. His car is originally a BB. Mine is a SB. Both cars have AC.

If this part doesn't work out for me, does anyone know what range of years for the radiator support would work for a 73? I'd like to buy used, if I can.

I'm pretty sure you need the sb version, but if you wanted more cooling with a bb sized radiator the bb would probably work
other will chime in ....i'm sure

Wilcox shows their radiator support for a 73 but does not specify bb or sb. So that would leave me to believe they are the same. Wilcox shows '73 radiator support fits 73-76 (early).

I wonder if the assembly manual shows two different parts numbers. If I can find some time, I'll have a look.

All 73 Corvettes used the same core support, radiator and shroud. Only the shroud extension was different, for small blocks verse big blocks.

For 68, and for 69-72 Corvettes, there were an assortment of different radiators and supports used.

Small block, 4 speed, no air cars used a 19" wide aluminum radiator and matching support. Small block cars with air conditioning and/or automatic used a larger 26" copper radiator and a different support to go with it. Big block cars used a third radiator that was 27" wide, and also copper, and required a third design support.

For 73, all Corvettes used the same 27" copper radiator, and support. 73-76 Corvettes used the same radiator for L-48's, L-82's and 454's. The only difference ever found with 73-76 OEM radiators, was that radiators for automatic cars had provision for the trans cooler lines.

The 73 core support is different from the later years in the way that the shroud mounts. The 73 used a single mount at the top center. In 74 they did away with the center mount and mounts off to each side.

I have not seen the 73 unit in reproduction. Had to buy one for a 74 and redrill it.

For anyone that cares to know, Modern Tool and Die (MTD) made all of the 1962-1982 radiator supports. I worked in maintenance there for 34 years. I started in 9/74 and GM never had us make a service part 68 support, while I was there. The 69-82 supports are very hard to make, correctly, ie, not warped. Lou.
