Just curiousity on '68 numbers
One of my brothers used to have a '68 427/390 4spd car. Silver with gunmetal interior. It was a pretty basic car - no AC, no PS, no PB etc (these are from his memory - so please correct me if I'm wrong on the no power items). That seems odd to me, but possible I guess? He always said - "it doesn't have power options, just power" I do remember it had the pop out rear window and a ridiculously tall gear set in it. Tons of top end speed.
Could anyone tell me aprx. how many were made in this color combo? Was a stunning car IMO. Just curious for conversations sake. Just thought it would be fun to pass along some details to him.
Thanks!
Adam

Thanks Karol! Great link. No production numbers for the interior from what I see there. I wonder if the gunmetal interior was a lower production? Sure looked cool with the silver paint, which I guess was Silverstone.

I have the same car down to the colors, but mine has p/s p/b.
I also saw another one at the Corvettes for Chip show in Pa. so I'm assuming its not too rare of a color combo.

Right, no production numbers for interior or for combinations of options, but you can see the number of Silverstone Silver cars, and the interior choices with that color were black, dark blue (that one probably very rare) and gunmetal. I bet there were a lot of black interiors, but plenty of gunmetal chosen with silver. Also note how few coupes were produced in 1968, so there probably weren't a whole lot made exactly like that one.

I bought a basket case 68 lots of years ago, and later learned that it started life as a Silver / Gunmetal 427, with no air or power. When I got it, it wasn’t Silver or Gunmetal or a 427. I’ve posted this here before, but curiously, mine shows paint code 996 on the tag, when it should be 986 for Silverstone Silver.

Based on all the registries I seen of 68 and 69 Vettes, Gun Metal was the rarest interior choice of buyers. It was mostly chosen by people who ordered silver exterior but a few people who ordered black also choose Gun metal.

I agree with Beefstick based on what I've read and actual cars I've seen. Most of the Silverstone Silver cars got black interiors; dark blue next (my '68 has code 411 dark blue), and gun metal third.
I've seen one of each, 68 coupe and convertible, with silver and gun metal.
It's a very nice combination.

I have a '68 coupe, original (and future) color is silverstone silver with gunmetal interior. However, the one I bought was a heavily optioned car... A/C, PS, PB, PW, telescoping steering column, etc. I would actully prefer if it were a base car with no options. But the color combo is very nice.

Since there is no existing data for color combinations, any figures you see quoted for color combinations are guesses. There were 3435 Silvertstone Silver cars. There are no records to determine how many of these 3435 were coupes and how many were convertibles.

Options were specifically selected except the heater which was included in all Vettes....non power Vettes were available it you wanted one, there were some combinations that were not allowed however....A few are, no AC with solid lifter engines nor automatic transmissions in the 1968 Corvettes......

There are currently 1622 vettes registered in the Corvette registry. Back when there were 1335, I counted 38 Gunmetal interiors or 2.8%. I imagine that perecentage would be very close to the actual number of gunmetals bought in 1968. The Registry contains over a random 5% sample size which would be a good statitical idicator.
